Show RAVISHERS GETTING THEIR DESERTS [DESSERTS]. BRADFORD, Pa., Aug. 6.-Wm. Hale attempted to ravish a 6-year-old daughter of Henry Aiken, last evening, at Triport. He was caught by citizens, tarred and feathered and driven out of town. POMEROY, O., Aug. 7.-Last evening a negro named Wm. Holmes, brutally outraged a young girl named Hysell. The neighbors scoured the woods with shotguns, with the intent to lynch him, but he was caught by the officers and jailed. It is believed he will be lynched yet. LOSS OF LIFE. CAIRO, Ill., Aug. 7.-The steamer Gold Dust was burned to the water's edge some hundred yards south of Hickman, Ky. Seven men were killed that are known of, and forty-seven wounded. The captain was wounded slightly. A corps of physicians left here at 8 p.m. for the scene of the disaster. |
