Reese Hunter Much consternation has developed in Laurence, Kansas, over the election of a Justice of the Peace, who admits, even hrags, of being a dope peddler. Phillip C. Hill was elected without the people knowing who he was a hippie leader and a white panther. After the election Hill said, Secrecy w as the secret of my success. Elections are peculiar affairs where anything can happen. For instance, in our own state of Utah the people returned a man to office who has consistently voted against the wishes of the majority of the state on the issue. His record of Financial support from the unions, whose cause he serves, was showrn to run into thousands of dollars. This man, under a president who was a Democrat, was a staunch supporter of the presidents Vietnam w ar policy. He originally agreed to the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution giving the president discretionary powers to send troops into Right-to-Wor- k the Far East. Now, under a Republican president, this same man does an about face and votes to limit the powers of the president to press for a military victory. Not only that, he calls for a withdraw al of troops without anything to show' for the thousands of American lives lost or maimed because they willingly answered the call to serve. In effect, he originally voted to put our men into combat and then, after we were fully committed, voted to tie their hands so they couldnt possibly win and now finally says we shouldnt have been there in the first place. This political chameleon supported the actions of the Moratorium Committee in Utah, part of a national movement which demanded the removal of U. S. troops from Cambodia. The Cambodian move was designed to knock out the privileged sanctuaries and supply lines of our soldiers enemies. This man originally helped to D et our country committed to the war in Vietnam, then helped ensure that it couldnt be won and now wants us to withdraw after having accomplished nothing in the fight ostensible reason for our being against communism-t- he there in the first place. Such loose frivolity with the lives of our men is inexcusable. The greatest enemy our men in Vietnam face are those at his back who pretend to be; his so-call- ed friends. In spile; of this record, to the everlasting discredit of a majority of the people; of Utah, they have returned this man to office. Just a generation or two ago, only one of the many reflations brought out about him during the n election would have; hern sufficient to consign his future political ambitions to the a.diheap forever. The; voters in Kansas didnt know the recorel of Phillip Hart but in Utah the voters did know the morel of Frank Moss. Thus, the; electorate in Kansas elo have; an excuse but for Frank Moss there is no excuse. (Continued on page 8) es employment, free twenty-fou- r hour day care centers, and free abortion or demand are met, then women will jeopardize a unique and noble birthright. For God bequeathed and entrusted to woman procreation, to be a homemaker and helpmate to man. It therefore follows that if life is precious, if a nation is only as strong as the home, if it is important to help man become what he ought to become, then woman indeed fulfills a most vital function. Respectfully submitted, John E. Smith State Representative The Arkansas Democrat CONSERVATIVES IN MAJORITY Three out of five people of the United States classify themselves as Conservatives, a nationwide opinion poll has disclosed. And now the Liberals are definitely in a minority position, despite their longtime claim of superiority. The survey significantly explodes the notion that Conservatives arc a rasping, dwindling group. Actually, they are a solid majority including people of all areas and backgrounds. This survey by Dr. Ciallup found that the Liberal label is most popular among those who have attended college. But among the entire population with college education, the Conservatives outnumber the Liberals 5 to 4. Probably the chief reason so many people have been deluded into thinking the Liberals are is the fact they dominate the communication lines flowing from the Eastern establishment. There is not a doubt that the Liberal press and TV and radio networks, being of one voice, have presented a distorted picture of American preferences. The Conservatives are now in the lead. May the trend continue. ful More On Executive Orders Dear Editor: would like to point out an error in the article Freedom I Lost in Canada-- U.
