A new government intrusion is portrayed as protection for defenseless citizens, tightening of government ethics, or relief for the beleaguered taxpayer. Yet, invariably, liberal benevolence, virtue, and frugality turn out to be something else again. A good example of a past use of this liberal shell game is the saddling of American industry with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSH A). Out of nowhere, back 0, in great concern developed over worker safety. Statistics were paraded before the public, and one liberal after another told us how worried he was about the welfare of the workingman. Never mentioned was the fact that American industrys safety record had improved every year since recordkeeping began in the 1930s, and that the American workingman enjoyed the world's most enviable working conditions. The resulting legislation, of course, created OSHA and gave it the power to fine, harass, control, and even close any business in America. Liberal benevolence once again turned out to be raw power. Now, after six years of OSHA, the agency has been challenged, and has been ruled unconstitutional in a number of courts. 1969-197- much-despise- d Another Liberal Proposal On March 7, Senators Ken- nedy Cranston (D.-Mas- s.), Mathias (R.-PintroSchweiker and duced legislation designed to increase public confidence in Congress by removing the influence of special interest groups. Omitting this important fact constitutes a distortion of the entire situation and leads the viewer of these TV programs to believe that the whites alone were responsible for slavery. Economic historians Robert Fogel and Stanley Engerman spent years in the National Archives researching census data for their 1974 book, Time on the Cross. During his confirmation hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on January 7, 1977, Young was asked the question: "Would you support the destruction of Western civilization if you were convinced that the rest of the world would thereby be liberated? Young responded "I probably would. In 1976, Young, as a member of the Congressional Black Caucus, and with some 100 other black leaders, produced a document entitled, "The Manifesto on Southern stated: African-Americ- an which Africa, "We totally support the liberation of southern Africa from white minority rule by means of armed struggle, where necessary, and affirm the right of the African liberation movements to seek necessary assistance from whatever sources available to achieve and majority rule, In the February 5, 1977, issue of HUMAN EVENTS, Congressman Larry McDonald commented on this Black Caucus "Maniself-determinat- ion as follows: "This is a de facto call for the United States to support what some have euphemized as guerrilla warfare, but which has in practice been terrorist violence against unarmed civilians, both festo black and white, "I would also point out that the approval given to the terrorists seeking assistance from whatever sources available condones the ar record of the Soviet bloc providing the guns and training for the guerrillas. If conditions for blacks are so bad in South Africa, why is it that each year over 500,000 blacks try to immigrate into South Africa despite apartheid? As for Rhodesia, there are about 270,000 whites in that country of which about 40,000 are able-bodimen. Can anyone believe that 5,000,000 Rhodesia blacks if they wanted to -- - could not eliminate the 40,000, even without arms? The truth is, the majority of Rhodesian blacks are content with the present government and the progress it is making.
