The Paper That Dares To Take A Stand 1973 Members of Congress as a program to guarantee medical services at no cost to poor people. It seems that almost anything will paiss Congress these days if it claims to be for poor people or for improving medical services. But instead of helping poor people, the politicians are hurting them by taking away their dignity protected by their right of privacy. If this HMO plan is allowed to become law, it will continue the trend toward socialized medicine and a national health insurance program. Politic al doctors and the political manipulation of patients, rights are too high a price to pay for .medical services. John U.S. Rarick, R Representative 6th District, Congressional Louisiana The overall result can only be a destruction of the time-honor- ed relationship. Our physicians will be forced into working for the bureaucrats at H E W rather than for the full health So benefits of their patients. is lives of our field another daily with federal now threatened control. patient-doct- This or scheme to the sold was ITS SHRINKING DOLLARS, NOT SWELLING PRICES Because it is difficult to realize that it is the value of the dollar that is dropping not the prices of goods and services so are demanding the rising, people dont understand and wrong kinds of corrective actions. If the length of a foot shrank 50 per cent as the value of the dollar has shrunk 50 per cent, then you wouldnt be 6 feet tall but youd be 2 feet tall. Or if the weight of a pound shrank 50 per cent, then if you got on a scale you wouldnt weigh 1 50 pounds but youd weigh 300 pounds. Of course knowing you hadnt doubled in height, hadnt doubled in weight, you'd, know that instead something had happened to your ruler and scale; so you wouldnt rush to the doctor to stop your growth nor to put you on a diet. Its like that too when the dollar shrinks 50 per in value it takes twice as many dollars to have the same value the same 1 purchasing power. So we dont need price controls, we need controls to keep dollars from shrinking. When we stop dollars from shrinking in value, we wont have prices of goods and services rising. Dollars become worth less when government gives away dollars for nothing, when government prints more paper dollars so it can spend and give away more dollars than it collects in taxes, and when government imposes taxes which in the end all add up as part of the prices we must pay.
