The Utes' trip to the Beaver State over the weekend ended on a low note Sunday as they fell to the No. 21 Oregon Ducks in Eugene. After notching its second consecutive road win Friday with a victory over Oregon State, Utah was quickly humbled, as it again failed to get a win versus a ranked conference opponent. The Utes were swept by the Ducks (15-25, 1925, 22-25) as Oregon produced a .379 hitting percentage and tallied 48 digs. "We probably were a little out of sync earlier," said Utah head coach Beth Launiere. "We were just too up and down." It didn't help that the Utes lost starting junior libero Lea Adolph in the third set of Friday's match. Adolph collided with senior Morgan Odale as they were both going for a loose ball. Adolph didn't play against Oregon and her presence was definitely missed. Freshman Tess Sutton replaced her in the lineup. "She has some concussion symptoms, so we had to sit her out," Launiere said of Adolph. "[Sutton] played and she did good stuff." Outside hitter Chelsey Schofield led Utah, as she turned in her third straight double-double performance. The junior posted 12 kills and II digs. Senior middle blocker Erin Redd-Brandon added seven kills and a block. On her sixth kill, Redd-Brandon became the newest member of the Utes' i,000-kill club. All but one of Utah's losses have come from a ranked conference opponent, and the Utes have been swept each of those times. "Winning on the road against Oregon would have been awesome," she said. "We did a lot of really good things. We just got to sustain it more. We can do this. I'm not positive about the match. I don't think we played our best, but I'm positive about the talks in the locker room about playing at this level. We are getting close. We just got to keep plugging away." Utah fared much better against Oregon State (9-10, o-8) Friday, beating the Beavers in four sets (25-22, 23-25, 25-16, 2514). The first two sets of the match were a battle, as there were a total of 20 ties through- ler out, but then the Utes dominated the final two frames. Utah was paced by ReddBrandon's io blocks, which put her over Soo for her career. She is third on the Utes' all-time list in the category. Redd-Brandon also put up io kills and amassed a .333 hitting percentage. Schofield added II kills and 12 digs and totaled a .267 hitting percentage. Schofield was pleased with the weekend overall but knows that there is much more to prove as Utah will return to the Huntsman Center to face No.16 Arizona State on Thursday and Arizona on Sunday. "I think we did pretty good," Schofield said. "I think we did what we needed to do at Oregon State.
