Singers, dancers and Wilde satire "The first act is ingenious; the second, beautiful; and the third, abominably clever," said Oscar Wilde about his play "The Importance of Being Earnest." Wilde's subtle but extravagant satire of Vic torian propriety opens Tuesday in the Babcock Theatre, downstairs at Pioneer Memorial Theatre (PMT). It is the second play of this Classic Season in the Babcock. "The play contains an indestructible worth," said director Frank M. Whiting. "Scarcely a season goes by without a distinguished professional production, somewhere. And, this has been happening since it was first produced in 1895." Hilarity happens when two men (David Page and Kim Christison) claim the name of Ernest. Their overly-prope- r Victorian ladies are played by Julie Boyd and Lisanne Purvis. Mary Anne Greenwell plays the indomitable Lady Bracknell. Others in the cast are Robert C. Tuckness, Debbie Carlisle and John Wrhi taker. by Erank M. Whiting, is part of the Babcock Classic Season.
