Naturally we were disappointed. After spending an hour or so pulling weeds and and clearing up the lots--- at the same time thinking some unkind thoughts about the caretaker- - we left, leaving the lots In a little better condition. The second cemetery we visited was encouraging to us, however, and we realized that someone had spent a lot of tlm providing a pleasing picture for visitors on Memorial Day. Although there was no grass in the cemetery, weeds were eliminated throughout the area, leaving lot owners a minimum of work In sprucing up the graves. We were simply elated, however, In visiting the Roosevelt cemetery (and we are sure that there are more like It which we did not visit). Not only was the grass groomed to the fullest extent, but shrubbery and trees were In top condition, and roadways were leveled and offered easy access for visitors. The thing that caught our eye, however, and the reason for a personal bouquet to the Individuals responsible, was the fact that someone had taken the time to till the soil on every vacant lot, and on all lots that were not planted Into grass, thus eliminating all weeds. It was a beautiful sight to see the green lawns, with the weed patches replaced by orderly squares of bright red sandy soli. Again our congratulations to tha crews who prepared the cemeteries for the busy schedule of Memorial Day. We are sure that they can take pride In the work they have accom-ollshe- d.
