In inviting the rest of the Basin to their celebration the people to our north are acting purely from a spirit of friendliness and happiness over their advancement. They have nothing to sell us, we believe but are merely anxious to have us come to help them celebrate their own good fortune. It should be an enjoyable party for all concerned, and one which should draw a large crowd from the county seat as well as elsewhere. Well be seem you at Altamont. THE COURT HOUSE LEVY IS DEFEATED Duchesne county is not going to have a new court house, at least not for awhile, it was decided last Tuesday by the county commissioners. A levy which had been tentatively set August 8 to raise funds for a WPA project on remodeling or rebuilding the court house was deleted from the levy along with 1 mill for the Colorado River Project, and a half mill was added to county debt, and the result was telephoned in to the state tax commission Wednesday ill morning. And so, to state the picture in its true light, Roosevelt is again victorious in its determination to delay as long as possible any appropriation for court house construction in Duchesne. The conventional way to write such an editorial as this would be to go on at length, as Roosevelt and Duchesne citizens did at the public meeting last Friday, talking in terms of taxes, benefits, needs, etc. but these are not the facts which governed the opposition shown at the meeting Roosevelt citizens would not bring up the strong opposition they did on these facts, for no one can deny the need, and to turn down the opportunity to have Unc e Sam pay approximately half the bilf when no one knows how long his will last is surely generosity not good business. No, those are not the important factors in the eyes of the opposition. What Roosevelt citizens are thinking about, we are sure, is the possibility that some time they may be able to move the county seat, and that further investment in a court house in Duchesne might hamper their efforts m this direction. Me cannot exactly blame the Roosevelt citizens W ants Legal Advertising Roy A. M. Todd home Friday evening. Mr. Munce was formerly a resident of Myton leaving here about 17 years ago, He and his family are now located at Twodot, Montana. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Meranda, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Earl Gardner of Alterra, motored to the Dinosaur monument near Jensen Sunday, where they enjoyed the interesting surroundings and explored the dinosaur in its ancient rock structure. Roland Krebs attended the state convention of the American Legion at Spanish Fork last week, return- ing home Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn Warr and Ray Warr returned home Monday after spending several weeks near Springville, where they were employed. Mr. and Mrs. 'Lavor Dennis left Sunday for California, where they will attend the San Francisco fair and visit relatives in southern California. They were accompanied brother, Devere, by Mr. Dennis who returned to his home in Oakland, after a weeks visit here. Mrs. Wm. Preece was hostess to the members of the Friday Bridge club. The members and guests present were Mrs. Wm. Koehler, Mrs. Homer Robinson, Mrs. R. E. Waugh, Miss Alice Todd, Mrs. Bliss Lott, Mrs. Lee Cooper and Miss lone Bird. A delicious lunch was served at the close of the games when the prize for high score was awarded to Mrs. Waugh. Edon Wall made a business trip to Salt Lake City Friday, returning Saturday. Miss Lorene Rowley of Salt Lake City is a guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Blaine. Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Murray and sons, Marion and Reed, arrived Monday from Tooele, spending a few days here as guests of Mr. and Mrs. Hillery Holder and visiting relatives at Bluebell before returning to their home enjoying a trip through Bryce's Canyon on their return' trip. Joy Frandsen became the bride for their attitude in this direction. No city can pro- gress without ambitious citizens, and the job of citizens is to keep fighting for a better and bigger town. The remarkable part of it is that Duchesne does not have enough ambitious citizens who will get out with sufficient energy to meet the opposition. Defeat of the court house issue is incidental to the real issue, so far as Rooseveltonly is concerned, but defeat can become a habit, and Duchesne might wake up some fine morning to find a real defeat staring its citizens in the face unless these same citizens start putting up a better defense of their rights. am-btio- PROPERTY FOR SALE: Because of failing health I must sell OFFICE THE STATE OF UTAH, OF STATE ENGINEER, SALT out my complete holdings in and 4 farms, 3 around Duchesne.
