BLUE BENCH PROSPECTS ARE IMPROVING The most encouraging feature yet to show it self in connection with the Blue Bench is the fact that the Moon Lake Water Users Association have apparently decided that there is not sufficient good land along the Uintah system to justify the building of the Yellowstone exchange canal, and consequently they have about a third of the available Moon Lake rights for sale for use elsewhere. This means that the supplementary water supply to provide irrigation when the Rock creek flow is too low in drouth years could probably be obtained from Moon Lake through an extension and enlargement of the Farnsworth canal. With support of the Blue Bench thus pretty well assured from the east section of the county, there is little reason to suppose that the project will not eventually become a reality. Approval of such projects moves slow of course, but constant hammering and careful planning should bring results and the end is well worth the time, effort and patience which must procede it. It is becoming more and more generally conceded that there is today no project in Duchesne county capable of doing more good to the county as a whole than the rehabilitation of the Blue Bench. j By Mrs. Grace Dalglcish who have A large crowd gathered at the the many Myton women for elsewhere to go forced been auditorium evening school Friday treatments. of their beauty to enjoy the regular weekly dance all Mrs. R. Carey of Fruit-lan- THE UINTAH BASIN NEEDS PAYROLLS Duchesne county must keep its eye pretty closely on the labor situation for the near future. With the Moon Lake project nearing its end early this summer, there will be little to offer in the way of payrolls outside of the few local industries, which are nowT at their minimum. Unless additional payrolls are provided there will be a terrific relief' load to carry in the county during 1938. Prospects for improving this situation present themselves in the road work to be done in the Strawberry valley on U. S. Highway No. 40 and on the Deer Creek reservoir. Both of these projects are' in Wasatch county however, and unless special provisions are made all the labor, if there is sufficient available, will be obtained from that county. The Duchesne Gateway Club, at its Wednesday meeting, authorized the mailing of requests that Uintah Basin labor be considered on these two projects. Such requests, if made before specifications are made up and advertised for bidders, should receive due consideration. Other civic organizations in the basin would do well to follow the lead of the Gateway Club and stress the importance of the situation to the State Road Commission and to the Bureau of Reclamation. County and City governments, too, must be on the alert to make the most of the $250,000,000 relief fund mnv receiving attention in Congress. This money when it is approved, and there seems little doubt about this fact, will be available mostly through W, P.
