The democratic Americans love and honor people of title much more than the people across the sea. That is probably because they are not Indigenous to the republic. It is, therefore, little wonder that there was quite a desire for invitations to the reception given on Tuesday evening by Mr. Samuel Ncwhouse in honor of his guests, Count Leon de Laborde of Paris and Philip Livermore of New York. This must not bo taken as uncomplimentary to Mr. Ncwhouse, for his social functions are always much e sought after, and he and Mrs. aro the most charming of entertainers. The reception on Wednesday was the real thing, good taste and good fellowship abounding. The 200 who had the good fortune to be present enjoyed it. Tho recoption hours were from 9 to 12 oclock. Assisting the host in receiving were Mrs. Montgomery Dclvin of San Francisco, Miss Helen Gillespie, Miss Marge Miller, Miss Ailecn Maclean and Miss Elisabeth McIntyre. A stringed orchestra stationed on the landing upstairs fur nished a programme of delightful music throughout the evening. New-hous- 49 Al- fred G.
