Show TRU T H i I have become thoroughly discouraged. The Utah boys were defeated in the contest referred to by a score of 75 to 26. In the races where coaching is not needed to any extent, the varsity team won 20 of the 26 points, while in the field events, where science counts for everything, Utah was all but shut out. This makes the third defeat Utah has received at the hands of the Nevadaites, in spite of the fact that Coach Holmes has nearly three times as many students to pick from as the Nevada coach. Jt I i i i i jt The ball players of the Utah league have been putting in good time during the last ten days. Beginning with Thursday of last week and counting todays contest, they will have played seven games. The best exhibition of the lot was played here last Friday, when Christies men defeated the Lobsters by a score of 5 to 1. All of the points were made in the first three innings, after which both teams got into the game and nothing but shutouts followed. Young Thomas twirled for the locals, and made what is probably the best record for the league thus far. On the following day the teams played in Ogden and according to reports the game was one of those kind. After old fashioned nine innings Ogden had 16 runs to Salt Lakes 15. The Lobsters also took the big end of the gate money in the Sunday game. Christie thought he had the game cinched when the Ogden team came up to bat in the ninth with the score 5 to 2 in his favor, but the Lobsters started a batting streak and the locals went into the air at the same time, all of which netted the northern bunch the necesgame at sary four runs. Wednesdaysshut-ouof t first Ogden resulted in the unthe season, the Lobsters being the fortunate ones. The Salt Lake bunch scored three runs, every one of them on hits. Fettes pitched a steady game for the locals, allowing but six scattered hits and striking out seven men. Jensen was in the box for Ogden, and held his opponents down to seven hits. hit-and-r- un ( i t Jt i Jt Cook, the shortstop of the soldiers team, who also butts into most of the Ugioij Pacific hijd 6bia$of AilwMiKee & Jt. The daily papers are not saying much about the affair because the sporting reporters learned that the fighters had agreed to divide the receipts half and half.
