Show a City Auditor Alff has had his hands full the past week passing on the legality or illegality of garnishments served upon tho municipality by creditors cred-itors of a number of the now employes of tho city. Among those whoso salaries sal-aries for the first month they have been In office havo thus bo seized by alert creditors are some heads of departments de-partments and some chief deputies. It's cruel, nfter those fellows havo been waiting for months, as It were, to get a square meal, to havo tho plate and tho cup dashed from their Hps by some ruthless chap to whom they happen hap-pen to owe a fow slmollans. Why couldn't the creditors havo waited a few months and given tho fellows a chance to get on their feet? It's woll known that their election expenses and enforced Idleness left them financially finan-cially stranded. It's a cold, cold world and the "most unklndest cut of all" Is the fact that somo of tho attaching at-taching creditors belong to tho "American" party, and worked shoulder shoul-der to shoulder In the recent election with those they are now pursuing. The now board of public works up- H pointed by Mayor Thompson Is n good jl board and should act as a satisfactory I balance wheel on tho city council. I Tho members aro V. J. Leonard, chair- I man; Charles D. Itookledgo, W. J. I Ilalloran, C. P. Brooks and S. M. Bar- ;H low. Tho position of member of tho board of public works is more honor- H iry than remunerative. It is believed H ill of the now appointees will give H '.lino nnd attention to the duties of H their positions. H n H |
