Show BLAMES EVERYTHING ON SMOOT. Tho Tribune has asserted that becauso be-causo Reed Smoot was elected a senator sena-tor of the United States and becauso of tho opposition to him retaining his seat Mormons residing in the east aro dlscrimnnted nganst n varous walks of life. In proof of that assertion Editor Cannon cites a case in which a relative rela-tive of his own attending an eastern college failed of becoming the president presi-dent of his class. Tho editor says his fnlluro wns because ho was discriminated discrimi-nated against on account of his being a Mormon. This argument did not, however, hold good In tho case of Carl Badger, a Mormon and privato secretary to Senator Smoot, who wns chosen president presi-dent of his class in the George Washington Wash-ington University of Washington, D. C. Neither did it apply In tho case of A. C. Sorenson, whoso home Is In Pro-vo, Pro-vo, Senator Smoot's homo town, and who is a Mormon. Mr. Sorenson was chosen as president of tho Junior law class of tho Gcorgo Washington University Uni-versity notwithstanding his Mormon-Ism Mormon-Ism and Senator Smoot. Strange It docs not occur to Editor Cannon that qualification has something to do with success. Anything however absurd is good enough for the Tribune to use as an argument against Senator Smoot. o |
