Show 1 ADDITIONAL POLITICAL Hit Hj Ono of the features of tho meeting H of tho members of the city and county Democratic committee Wednesday M evening was tho passing of a motion M by unanimous vote exonerating C. M. M Jackson from any blamo as to the B missing records of the committee. H Jackson was secretary of the commit- H tee during tho campaign of 1904. M When L. R. Martincau was elected as M city chairman last fall ho applied to H the former chairman, one Matt H Thomas, for tho records, including the Bl names of the committee. Mr. Thomas B informed him that he did not have HI them nor did he know where they ! were. Ho is said to have- Intimated Hi that ho thought Jackson made away Hi with them. Several times sinco then HI Jackson has been accused, by inuendo HI at least, of having mado away with HI tho records. At a meeting of the Hh commltteo held last week Jackson was HI again nccused, b Inuendo, of having HI taken away or destroyed the records. HJ Jackson has been In Ogdcn, as editor HJ of tho State Journal, for over a year HI and evidently had not heard of 'the HH charges mado against him until with- HH in tho last week or two. During the HH last meeting- of tho commltteo the HI question of tho records wns again HJ brought up. Chairman Martincau HH stated that he had received a letter HH from Mr. Jackson in which ho denied HH that he had dono away with any roc- HH ords that wero In his chnrge while HH acting as secretary. From Informa- HJ tlon that has leaked out it appears HH that a member of the commltteo had HH also received a letter from Mr. Jack- HH son bearing on tho subject, and that HH' if there wero no objections he would HJ like to have it read. HJ "Read it," was tho call of a number HJ of the members of the committee. The HJ letter was passed to the secretary of HJ the meeting, who read it in full. In HJ this letter Jackson stated that ho had HJ never taken nor In any way disposed HJ of a single slip of paper belonging to HJ the committee. The letter asked that HJ if anyono in tho party thought that HJ ho was guilty of such an offense, that HJ ho would like to have their minds dls- HJ abused of tho Idea. According to one HJ member of tho committee, Jackson HJ stated that had he have wanted to de- HJ feat the Democratic party in Salt Lake HJ County he would havo used different HJ methods and havo worked for the re- HJ election of Matt Thomas as chairman HJ After the second letter had been HJ: read tho secretary was instructed to HJ' write to Mr. Jackson and Inform him HJ that ho was exonerated of all blame HJ that had been attached to him with HJ regard to tho missing records. This HHi motion was passed without a single HHI dissenting vote. While acting as sec- HHI retary of the commltteo Jackson wns HH considered one of the best secretaries HH that tho party ever had in this conn- H ty, and the accusations made against HH him have been strongly resented by HH friends of his who nre members of HH the committee nnd members of the HH party as well. That an act such ns HH Jackson was charged with would have HH been committed by him was beyond HH their belief. HH Chairman Cunningham of tho Demo- HH crntlc county commltteo has appoint- HJ ed It. W. Dole ns secretary of the com- HJ mittco. Mr. Dole is a young lawyer, HJ junior partner In tho firm of Wllley, HJj Wllley & Dole. |
