Golf Clinic Now On Friday The free golf clinic conducted by Skyway pro Otto Jorgensen has been rescheduled to one day per week. According to Jorgensen, con- flicting activities of the boys and girls participating in the clinic made the change to one clinic every Friday at 9 a.m. necessary. Youngsters interested in learning the sport are urged to attend the clinic each week, said Jorgensen. . . . ed. . Agriculture Agriculture will come first, as we found the farming areas we visited situated below the 45 parallel and located about the same as Utah, Idaho, Nevada and northern California. The farm belt is only slightly above sea level and near the great waterways and St. Lawrence River. In Kent and Essex counties, visited the first day, the farm lands are on the remains of an old lake bottom, very similiar to our Lake Bonneville, which we have here. However, due to the . lower altitude, farmers are able to raise two and three crops per. year. At the time of our visit the head lettuce crop had just been harvested, and tomato plants were being transplanted from hot" houses, when these are harvested, another short growing crop will be planted. - Farmers in the two counties mentioned,, claim they have a greater acreage under glass, in hot houses, than any other place in the world. It was not unusual to see hot houses and heating plants larger than our commercial units in this county. Sugar beets, corn and wheat are also principal farm crops, with soybeans, spinach, beans, peas and hybred seed. Buriey tobacco is also grown, extensively in xKent County. Rich farm lands are seen in the London area, with beautifully rolling hills as far as the eye can see. Visit Modern Farm The publishers had the op given . a profit-sharin- return, g above their regular set salaries. Mr. Kerr told the visiting publishers the farm was making a substantial profit and his "turn-ove- r to employees was very light. Livestock All along our travel in the southern part of the Province large pastures provided feed to many cattle, mainly Hereford and Jersey. The dairy and poultry industry also plays a large part in the economic welfare of the area. Of particular interest was the well kept appearance of homes and farm buildings along the tour route. On the main these were very well kept, and even though the past season has been stormy, weeds and grass had been taken out, with the sides of the highway in the farm areas well mowed to prevent unsightly appearances to the visiting motorist. Farther North The choice land decreased as one travels to the north, where livestock raising increases. We were told at Midland and"Wiar-to- n that cattle are shipped by boat from western Canadian provinces and northern United States in the early spring to be fed on the range land of the Bruce Peninsula during the summer and fall season. Fruit Bell Jumping ahead to the final days of the tour, we saw miles and miles of grape and fruit orchards lying between Hamilton and Niagara, on the Canadian side. From these crops, much of the wine and liquors of the dominion are made. Next Week - The vacation land. Mrs. Susanne Mayo, Mrs. Carmen Waldron and Mrs. Dona Mrs. Bowcutt accompanied Pearl Casey to the airport at Salt Lake City last week where Mrs. Casey left by plane for Brussels, Belguim to spend the summer with her brother, Art Johansen and his wife and f am-il- y.
