(Bertha) will observe her 83rd birthday Sunday, February 7th and will spend it quietly at home with immediate members of h e r family and a few close friends. Mrs. Smith was born in 1882 at New ton, a daughter of James Peter and Mary Nielson Jensen, early Danish converts to the LDS Church. She attended Utah State Agricultural College at Logan and is a member of Club. the Golden Anniversary ..at . Newton She taught-scho- ol and Fielding. She has served as Primary president and served in both the Mutual and Relief Society. She has been ac-- . tive in civic affairs, is a mem- -' ber of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, a charter member of Club the Social Development and was a member of the Book-lor- e Club. She was chosen as "Mother of the Year" to represent Bear River Valley and was sponsored by the Tremonton Women's Civic League in 1961. She has been honored as the oldest living teacher to have taught at the Elementary School. Sixty five years ago she taught the Primary grade. She married Joseph H. Smith Dec. 13. 1905 in the Salt Lake Temple and they have spent their entire married life at Fielding where her husband has been a successful farmer. Mrs. Smith and her husband are the parents of eight sons and daughters, six of whom are Mrs. J.
