Show THE LEADER, Tremonton, Uuh Thursday, March 17. 1955 Coaches Basketball Champs Peterson in Top Condition For Match With Ron Whittle By Max Adams ' Only eight days remain before local fight fans will witness one of the first professional fight cards to be staged in the Bear River Valley for several years, and headlining the big svent will be a 6 round heavyweight fight between Ronald Peterson of Thatcher, and Ron Whittle of West Jordan. Fight time is set for March 26, at 8:30 p.m., in the Bear River high school girls gym. The big question that many fans are asking is whether or not Bear River Valley's past amateur king, with only 2 pro Douts under his belt, is ready for a pro fighter of Whittle's caliber, who has better than 60 professional bouts, with 29 of them by the KO route. i Jf '. - hook has become well known, and is one reason why he is not able to fight men in the professional ranks with the same amount of experience, but must take a big step up the ladder to a roughie like Ron of Rex Whittle, stablemate Layne, Gene Fullmer, and Jack Nelson. Without a doubt, Whittle will be a mighty touglh test for the young, strong Peterson, but in the same breath it must be considered that the farm kid from Thatcher has the punch to lay the best of them in a prone position. Garth Panter To Appear Preceeding the main event between Peterson and Whittle will be a very outstanding preliminary card. One that is drawing much attention is the middleweight fight between highly ranked Garth Panter, who has twice fought Bobo Olson, and Benny Flake, veteran of 126 fights with the best men in the business. Flake, who has been sparring partner for Peterson the last three weeks, will be matching a bag full of tricks and clever boxing against the semi-fina- Ron Peterson Peterson Record Impressive Looking at Peterson's fight record shows that he had 16 fights as an amateur, winning 14 by a KO, and 2 by a decision, these fights carrying him to the Golden Glove and AAU championships.
