TREMONTON Bear River Meets Grantsville In First Basketball Tilt With the opening game of n the High School basketball one coach week away, just Durrell Hughes has the Bears hard at work. On Friday, Nosea-eo- vember 30, Bear River will meet the strong Grantsville Cowboys at the Bear River high school gym. The Bears will be gunning for fJbelr third trip to the state tournament In four years. With a region championship in 1943-4a second place in the state the same year and second place this In the region in 1949-5to team determined is year's add more honors to the growing list at Bear River High. Three regulars are returning from last year's team, Varge Christensen, Don Nish, and Thayne Calderwood; although the latter Is still ailing from a grid injury and has not been able to work out very extensively. Coach Hughes has cut the squad to 23 boys and it is from these fellows that the first and second squads will be formed. The following comprise the squad at present: Seniors, Varge Christensen Don Nish, Thayne Calderwood, Stanley Stark, Paul Bone, Bruce Stevens, Dee Leak, and Lowell Archibald. Juniors are Blaine McNeeley, Jack Fronk, Dean Potter, Lynn Petersen, and Elmo Christensen. A graduate of Bear River high school where he played basketball, Pfc. Andreasen was cited for "performance of duty, leadership, initiative, conduct and appearance." HANSON FLIES JET OVER TREMONTON number of local people watched the Boeing 7 Strata Jet plane which flew over Garland and Tremonton last Friday morning, not knowing that it was piloted by Major A. H. Hansen, husband of the former Bebe Strand, and grandson of the A. R. Capeners of Garland. Major Hansen was enroute from the coast to Wichita, Kansas, his base, and flew this way on account of the illness of his grandmother.
