(U.S. Army Photo) 1LT Depot Officers Judge Science Fair With a keen eye, a trained-skille- d mind and a sharp pencil three officers from Tooele Army Depot scored projects at the Harris Elementary School Science Fair. The gentlemen, striving to assure fairness and justice in judging; read, tested, tried and reviewed each project. The judges were Capt. Gary M. Servold, 1st Lt. Robert M. OConnell and 1st Lt. James P. Moulton, all engineers from the depots Facilities Engineering Division. "This is a refreshing break from work, noted one of the engineers. They were joined by another judge, Mr. Scott Ferguson, range conservationist from the Soil Conservation Service. The four judges raced over 200 projects awarding superior prizes of blue ribbons to only the best nine. They studied projects displaying grader. This must be kept in mind and is used as part of our criteria. Another tough thing is figuring out just what some of the projects are really about, especially in physical science," he added. The judging was distributed to three science categories including rocks, dinosaurs, water works, electricity. The solar system and volcanoes seemed to be favored by students because of the many entries covering these subjects. Others were: what makes night and day, how does the heart work, sea shells, fungi, blood types, muscles, boats, horses and bugs. "It is hard to be consistent in judging, said OConnell. "It is hard to put a first grader against a fifth physical, earth and biological. Awards were given in age categories for the students. The judges agreed that it was a neat experience to read what the students were really thinking, especially the first and second graders, they said. The depot and the city, closely located, are closer in the unique neighbor relationship. high-qualit- r v'i y A r . to. m - v i j.
