the utah fish and game released a new fis fishing hint proc lar la mation nation for 1948 the most im change in the proclamation was the curtailing of the posses sion limit this year you will only be allowed one dally daily limit of tit teen fish or seven pounds in your possession the fish and game de part mient is receiving some pro tests fan this reduction but as for me I 1 think the reduction is a good thing fifteen fish or seven pounds of fish is enough for any family at any one time and something has to be done to spread the fish a round a little further since 1920 the fishermen of utah have in creased over a thousand percent while our fishing waters have de creased you cant figure on your fishing and hunting trips paying for themselves any more if you think they should you have no business calling yourself a sports man the recreation and enjoy ment you get out of fishing is worth plenty those that are putting ing up the biggest holler on this reduction of the possession limit are the packers and guides in the they have reason to hoi hol ler because its it s a cinch the sports men are not going to pay the ex herbant prices these packers have been asking to pack one in and out of the lakes if they can only bring out fifteen fish idaho and wyoming cut their possession limit last year and they have a lot more water and fish than we have here in utah I 1 ve talked with a lot of fishermen around this little hamlet and they say that they d a lot rather take a cut in the possession limit than to have another cut made in the daily catch I 1 think most of the ardent fishermen of this state will agree that our fish and game commission acted in good faith and for the best good of all till concerned ross leonard director utah fish and game department has been named to make a survey of license fees throughout the nation and report to members of the in ter national convention in st louis march I 1 it was announced today by a game department spokesman mr leonard s of fish and game fees throughout the united states the spokesman explained fishing and trapping licenses is sued in 1947 will be valid until april 15 1948 it was explained today by armond carp chief clerk utah fish and game commission the utah legislature provided in its last session for this extension of time mr carr said this was done to protect those fishermen and trappers who participate during the early months of the year before the state is able to have the current year years s licenses is sued after this date all trappers hunters and fishermen will have to have the 1948 tickets the chief clerk pointed out trappers affected by this ex tension are only the muskrat trap pers mr carr said muskrat trap ping season in those areas which have not been closed by pro clama clarna tion waters where game fish are not involved it is legal to take catfish all the year around in the open waters mr carr stated al though catfish are classified as game fish the state of utah will begin its antelope tr trapping in daggett county february 8 it was announced to day by ross leonard director of utah game department the trapping will depend how ever on whether or not it is pos sible to get trucks and the feces sary equipment into the gladies area mr leonard said and this in turn will depend on whether the green river is frozen solidly enough to hold the weight of the vehicles the game chief said mike gaufin big rig game super visor and warden henry veteran antelope trapper were scheduled to complete a survey of road and range conditions this week two wardens flew over the area with jack turner veteran an delope chasing pilot from vernal results of their trip have not been disclosed it is th the plan of the state mr leonard said to move upward animals from this corner of the state to suitable lands on the western deserts the state has small herds on the we western s tem sag elands but these herds ne need ed new blood to bring them along mr leonard said the state has already received I 1 25 head of antelope from the wy orning game commission all of which were transplanted in western box elder county utah game lead ers have borrowed the wyoming trapping net for
