Show mineralogical al society held two day meet at june and on saturday and sunday june 14 and 15 the mineralogical so clety members who had met in a convention in salt lake city took a field day at topaz mountain to gather topaz crystals edward harris took me out we counted 37 cars and one more pas sed us as we were returning home it is estimated that there were ap proximately people in the group many returned from the mountain by supper time and each had a bag with a fahily good sized haul one person skilled in his work found a pocket and got out thirty two very n ce wine colored crystals of fine quality another man showed me a rock matrix he had chipped hipped out containing two pockets one with an extra nice colored topaz in it and a smaller one also and the other pocket con taming the transparent kind only but in a cluster it is a good col lector s exhibition piece and will be a prized addition in his cases tables had been set up fire places built wood hauled in for fires previous to this field day so that accommodations were provided many put up tents others were to camp out in the wilds without even that protection A flag was erected on a high rock topping the horizon near the camp and floated proudly in the evening this is the largest gathering so far held in topaz and that so many got such fine sped mens proves that the field still con bains interesting rewards for those with skill knowledge and patience for it takes those three qualities to win results ted found sufficient numbers to satisfy his needs and saw topazes in the very auto tracks again corroborating the saying juab county paves its roads with semi precious stones prof junius J hayes of the U of U had the outing in charge W T rogers eng neer from bingham was vice president resident of the field trip and I 1 had a nice chat with S P roach air corps of hill field utah with headquarters at ogden the outing was very successful and there were assembled cars many from california one from new jersey one from new york several from colorado one from wyoming showing the lure of to paz mountain to those who ap preci predate ate its value and that value is not exhausted others will find interest there |
