Show rtfflif --i Election Results in Two New Council Members and Mayor - " "T 1 i I . - f i 1 j by Mary Burgin s The dust has settled, the current city council has approved ap-proved the results and the 2013 election is now in the record books. The winners are all anxiously anx-iously looking to the future with rolled-up sleeves and positive hope. Write-in candidate Michael Daniels won his former seat as mayor. Daniels has also served as a council member in recent years. When asked how he feels about taking on the responsibilities responsi-bilities of the office of mayor back on again, Daniels said he thought there would be space between the general election and the start in January, but due to the time of year the time is going quickly. He said, "I am happy to dive back in and serve." Daniels then noted that he feels there needs to, "develop solutions to our public safety facility needs that our citizens agree with, can afford and will support." He added that he also feels the city needs to, "refo-cus "refo-cus and increase our economic development efforts to attract commercial services our citizens citi-zens want and to broaden the financial stability of our city." He suggested that the city investigate financial realities and solutions to, "fixing our infrastructure at a more aggressive ag-gressive pace i.e, the roads." "We need time to heal and pull the city back together. We, the elected officials, must remember remem-ber our accountability to serve the will of the citizens," he said. Dianna Andersen feels her recent service on the Planning Commission has prepared her to serve on the city council. "When I was appointed to the commission by the mayor, I had no idea what the service would entail." She said the first six months on the commission was a, "learning curve," for her. Andersen said she came to understand the many facets of the infrastructure of the city. She said this includes the storm water system, sys-tem, building codes and more. "I want to come to every city council coun-cil meeting prepared," she said. She said the economics and debt load of the city is very important impor-tant to her. "I want to see Pleasant Grove protected financially in the long run," she said. She noted she is very excited to serve the community com-munity on the council. After a close loss in his previous run for the council, Ben Stanley said he threw his hat back in this year with the encouragement of friends and neighbors. "I want to fight for the people peo-ple in the lightening the burden of debt," he noted. Stanley said that as he studied the impact fees, etc. that other communities communi-ties charge their citizens, Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove's fees are, "through the roof." Stanley indicated that he is concerned about solutions related re-lated to economic vitality. "We need to keep our tax dollars here by attracting destination businesses," busi-nesses," he noted.
