Show PG Viking 15-Under Team Declaws West Jordan Jaguars by Dean Von Memmott In a Utah Baseball Academy Acad-emy League 15-under division game at Viking Field on July 1, the Pleasant Grove Vikings de-clawed de-clawed the West Jordan Jaguars 11-1. Jade Smoot's pitching kept the Jaguars from putting any runners on base during the top of the first. Three straight one-out one-out doubles made it possible for the Vikings to get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first. Luke Kaesmeyer hit the first double into left, and Payton Simpson doubled him in. Bren-don Bren-don doubled in Simpson, only to become stuck at second. The next inning saw Smoot accidentally bean Eli jah Mitchell. The accident could have played to West Jordan's advantage, had it not been for shortstop Mitchell Mitch-ell getting tagged by second sec-ond baseman Logan Bullock while trying to steal second. The second's top half ended with Bullock grounding out Turner Knight, the son of now former West Jordan baseball coach Brock Knight, who had pitched for the American Fork Cavemen in 1980's. Singling at the bottom of the second, Cade Engamann came home on a Stan Christiansen, Chris-tiansen, one-out double. West Jordan answered it with a double play. On two outs in the top of third, Smoot walked Brock Subic. Cody Brennen singled Subic in but got thrown out while turning to turn his hit into a double. The score stayed at 3-1 until the bottom of the fourth. That inning, Pleasant Grove loaded the bases on no outs and Engamann batted in two runs. A Spencer Romney sacrifice fly scored the third fourth-inning run. Even though Landon Morris singled off Smoot in the fifth, and Ben Boulter Boul-ter whacked a single in the top of the sixth, the Jaguars i couldn't get a rally going. : That fact proved fatal to I West Jordan. : In the bottom of the : fifth, Simpson doubled in j Braden Cox and Kaesmey- ; er to improve the Pleasant j Grove lead at 9-1. ; With Bullock doubling : into left in the bottom of the sixth, the Vikings went " on a three-run run rally that : settled the game's outcome.
