Kills by Daniel enabled server Dahl to put Pleasant Grove ahead 24- 23. Alta evened the game at 24, but a Daniel kill broke the tie and sent the Vikings on their way to winning the game 26-24. They battled us for every single point." by Dean Von Memmott The Pleasant Grove Vikings survived a tight, four-game four-game match that they played at home against the Alta Hawks in Region Four volleyball action September 28. Pleasant Grove won the match by scores of 25-13, 25-19, 25-19, 18-25,26-24. The first game opened on a heart-stopping note. Kay la Bowman and Delayne Daniel guided the Vikings out an early 3-1 lead. However, under the leadership of Kaitlyn Vanhoff and Sydney Marchant, the Hawks flapped back to pull ahead 8-5. Pleasant Grove capitalized on some Hawk hitting errors to retake firm control of the game. The Vikings pulled ahead 10-9. 10-9. Alta stayed really close to Pleasant Grove until Kim Dahl started registering kills that enabled the Vikings to pull away. Sisters Audrey and Kat Biggs produced hits that gave Pleasant Grove the momentum it needed to win Game 1 25-13. With Dahl dominating Viking hitting in Game 2, the Vikings had no trouble with rowing out in front 7-2. Vanhoff and Challie Mitchell attempted to initiate Alta comebacks late in the game, but with a Daniel kill having put the Viking Jead at 14-4, the Hawks soon lost whatever chance they had for turning their fortunes around. A Daniel kill gave Pleasant Grove a 25-19 win. By Game 3, Alta's morale should have been smashed to pieces. However, the Hawks showed no signs of calling it quits. Vanhoff and Nicole Koehler's hitting quickly created a 6-0 lead for the Hawks. At that point, Pleasant Grove woke up to the fact that Alta was still far from being finished. However, the Vikings had trouble putting together an effective offense. Marchant, Vanhoff and Mitchell pretty much neutralized Dahl, Daniel and the Biggs sisters at the net. When the scoreboard read 13-3, Alta, a fourth game became inevitable. The Vikings battled back within 22-17, but the Hawks held them in check. The fourth game became a seesaw fight. For a little while, all the Vikings could do was tie the game. After a Scout Heizer tip had improved a Hawk lead at 15-12, the Vikings called a timeout time-out to make adjustments. Kills by Daniel and Audrey Biggs guided Pleasant Grove within 17-16, but the Hawks continued staying out in front. When the Hawk lead had grown to 21-17, a fifth game seemed likely.
