But there are critics who also point out that the uneven recovery set the stage for future declines. One of the biggest assumptions on which tests could be of the economic forecasts widespread assertion are built. Music man saves people money David Dickey has learned to make beautiful music in the organ business as he boasts the lowest prices in the West. Dickey, 25, has been involved in the organ business since 1971. While only 13, Dickey started his career at Heart Brothers in Salt Lake City as an organ instructor. By age 16, Dickey was on the floor selling the instruments. Its pretty easy to sell something when you yourself enjoy it, Dickey said. Lees Music opened in October of 1976 with Dickey and his father in a family partnership. With Dickeys father named Lee and Dickey himself with the middle name Lee, Lees Music was born in Carbon County. Dickey is now the sole owner of the company. KihglCoalJ3 Dickey said basically every organ and piano dealer buys an instrument for the same price. However, because of his low overhead and the fact that he himself delivers the instrument, teaches lessons and sells, he is able to come down at least a couple of hundred dollars per instrument. If the organ is quite expensive, Dickey said he has come down from $1,000 to $2,500 lower than any other dealer. Dickey has sold organs and pianos to as far as California, Wyoming, Arizona and Colorado. He said he loads them up and delivers them himself, making a vacation out of the trips. If given the opportunity, he said, I have never missed beating the price. I basically do everything myself. While Carbon County isnt always thought of as a center of culture, Dickey said he owes his success to an abundance of culture here. This area is very cultural, but a lot of my success has to do with education, he said. We have people who will buy two, three or even four instruments from me. Dickey said there have been two other dealers in the county besides himself that had to close down shop. He said he is able to beat any price on an organ or piano in the United States. I tell people to tell their friends to price an instrument, get the very best price they can and then call us collect, he said. We can beat the price, deliver the instrument plus service and tune them. But they also warn the economy is not expected to come roaring back from recession and are divided on whether rates will continue their descent into autumn. A half percentage point reduction in the The prime, the base upon which banks compute loans to their best business customers, is not tied directly to consumer rates, but its movement gives an indication of trends in interest rates.
