Have Ski Slide Initial preparations for a ski slide and jump were being started on Wood Hill north of the Carbon county high school early this week, offering facilities where would-b- e skiiers may strut their stuff to their hearts content. Under the direction of the Recreational department of the W. P. A., five men will be put to work making the slide ready for use, with the advent of the first heavy snow, skiiers are expected to be flocking there. The hill offers an exceptional location for such a slide and is expected to be in use practically all of the time. Engle Invited For the formal opening of the slide, skiier has been Alf Engle, invited here to present an exhibition. Engle has received considerable acclaim for his ability as a ski artist and his appearance will warrant a large turn-ou- t. Just when the slide will be ready for operation was not definitely stated, however the work is hoped to be finished within the next few weeks. Toboggan Lane At Scofield, a toboggart lane is being made ready for the snow of coming weeks and will draw many participants there for winter sports. Tentative indications point to the prospect of making Scofield one of this states outstanding winter sport sections, with facilities being added gradually, to accommodate virtually every phase of winter sport. Number Mounts Last year during the 1935 hunting season, over 4,800 nimrods hunted big game within the national forests of this region and preliminary reports from the forestry officials indicate that this year the number will well exceed the 50,000 mark. The extremely dry and balmy weather that has prevailed almost the entire period considering the intermountain region as a whole made hunting somewhat difficult. There is but little snow in the mountains and no general drifts to the winter ranges have yet been necessary. Game animals are still largely scattered throughout the high country. He indicated that a swift opening attack would do more to stagger an opposing team than just the breaks of a game and will work with the plan in mind to center his advances around a basis. In practice sessions here, he has been using various formations, all destined to show the upper hand of the locals but just what formations will be featured in the actual competition, is not known.
