Show The Summit County Bee December 10, 1999 Boys Basketball, It Has Begunl Student Writer: Penny Knight and Becky I)ees Due to a successful South Summit football season, the boys basketball ' - team was only finalized this last week. Because of this they were denied two weeks of practice unlike schools in our region. The team will be under the supervision of Head Coach Charles Mohlcr and his assistants Wayne Allred, Paul Peterson, and Ryan McArthur. Seniors Cuttis McEntire, Joey Edmunds, Cody iiowick, Jarin Leavitt, Ethan Atkinson, and Dal Holman will dominate on the court this season. Juniors are Cory Hardman. Matt (lines, Gary Richins, Brett Marchant, Ryan McNeil, Brady Mitchell, Cameron Miller. Travis and Page, Sophomores are Cody Edwards, James Preece, Tyrell Stevens, Clayton Querry, and Justin Padfield. jIThe South Summit boyi team started out their season at the North Summit Tournament. The tournament took place over the third and fourth of December and lasted two days. On Dec. 3, they were scheduled to play Bear Lake under the direction of Coach Anderson. Saturday night they were to face the Park City Miners, coached by Coach Jackson. The junior varsity took the floor Friday night in hopes of a win against Bear take. They started off strong and played hard as a team. They got the lead early. When the game drew to a close South Summit was disappointed with the loss of their lead. They lost to Bear Lake, but never gave up. When the varsity headed into battle they looked intimidating. The SuSseriSe! ferocious line up consisted of four seniors, a junior, and a bench to back them up. Starters were Jarin Levitt, Cody Iiowick, Curtis McEntire, Ethan Atkinson, and Cory Hardman. Throughout the game Cody Iiowick rebounded well and added 1 1 points to the score. Another senior, Joey Edmunds, was the high scorer of the game with 14 points. Seniors Ethan Atkinson and Jarin Levitt played tough defense frustrating Bear Lake. Despite all the great efforts of the Mighty Wildcats they fell short of a . win with a final score of 36-6- 3 Saturday night the Cats faced the Miners with attitude. The junior varsity played at 3:00 to start the night off. Coach Mohler knew they were tired but asked that they play hard. They did just that, playing an overly aggressive game. South Summit had all but Five players fouled out at the end of the game. They also had one player with four fouls. Park City came away with a victory on their hands. The Varsity Wildcats knew what lay ahead of them with the Miners. Park City's 6 8" Center Ben Rajamaka proved to give the Wildcats trouble from the start. Curtis McEntire had a few tricks of his own making Park City work for everything they got. Cody Iiowick was the leading scorer for the Wildcats with 14 points. The Wildcats stepped it up during the fourth quarter making 17 points, but fell short on time and left with a defeating score of 42-6- quite discouraged. Unfonunately, their defense was not strong enough to take over the mighty Braves. The team's scoring was not that good in the First quarter, but the Wildcats were determined to bring'up the speed. Only 13 points were made in the First quarter of the game, leaving the Cats, to trail behind. By the half the Wildcat team was up to 26 points and still struggling. It was not looking good for the Wildcats. Coach Wayne Allred gave the and team some encouragement brought them up to speed in the third quarter. Cameron Page stepped up and scored two Also, scoring big was Janies Prcece hitting in (he third quarter. dow n a High shooting points were captured by Ty Stevens, and Cameron Page, both shooting 12 points a piece. But in the end it wasn't enough. The Cats were beat 69 to 62 at the end of the fourth quarter. Their efforts and the short practice time proved them Wildcat worthy. Good job, sophomores! -- S.S.
