BOUNTIFULS UTAH UPHOLSTERY Chairs from 145 Sheriffs Blower BY PAMELA ROBBINS Bee Editor June An officer responded to a cell phone call of a driver speeding and oif driving recklessly Eastbound and exiting at Kimballs Junction. Traveling on 224, the male Hispanic driver was stopped and cited for no drivers license, improper registration, speeding and reckless driving. He was taken to the jail and the car was State 80 8 A resident learned the hard way that it is important to make sure 'a vehicle is in gear when leaving it in your driveway. The Isuzu Rodeo left the driveway, went across the street and came back to the other side of the street and ran into the side of a fire hydrant. No serious damage was done, but public works was called because the hydrant had shifted from its original position. Several power lines fell across the street on Kamas Main intersection. UP&L, Sheriffs Office Personnel and State Road workers responded to the scene to assist. The lines were replaced in a short time. Officers stopped a motorist for traveling westbound in the east-boulane of travel on near Silvercreek. The driver said he realized he had made a mistake and was transported to the jail on a DUI charge. A driver with a broken tail light was stopped near the Jeremy store and was transported to jail when it was discovered he was driving under suspension, had an active warrant out of Salt Lake, and no drivers license. , A UHP Trooper requested assistance, from the Sheriffs Office with their K-- 9 search dog. A vehicle was "sniffed both interior and exterior, but resulted in no indications. A truck parked next to a hotel in the Kimballs Junction area was vandalized. It contained replacement beds for the hotel. A case number was assigned and investigation continued. Stereo Items totaling' approximately $1,350 were stolen from a van parked at The Canyons. The owner repotted they were in the vehicle at 7 a.m. but were missing later when he returned. Officers responded to a vandalism call at North Summit Middle School. The broken window was repaired quickly. A nine year old girl was approached by a male driving a jeep, as she got off the bus. The girl ran home and told her father who contacted the Sheriffs Office. Impounded. The female driver of a car traveling on 248 near the Park Gty High School was pulled over to check on her driving, and was taken to jail on a DUI charge, after field tests were administered at the scene. An argument between a store clerk and customers at a factory outlet store ended up with two sides of a story being explained to officers. A witness who was in the store was later located and asked to fill out a statement. A case number was assigned. Enatic driving caused an officer to pull a motorist over on 248 in the South Summit area. Conducting field tests, which the driver failed, the male was transported to the Summit County Jail. A jogger with a dog and a photographer got into an argument over the "behavior of the animal, (using the bathroom outdoors in what the photographer considered to be a watershed area). The case was referred to Salt Lake, as the area in question was in their territory. Dispatch logged in a report of a stolen backpack in case it was ever located. The pack, containing school books was taken from an unlocked car, and although the car was "picked over nothing else was removed. Taking money from a till in one of the Mall Outlet stores, the suspect stated to officers that it was "a joke and that he was "only teasing as he placed the bills on the counter. He was charged anyway. Road rage led to a flipping off encounter as two drivers gave their versions of the story. Incidents of this nature are becoming more commonplace, leading officers to remind drivers to leave in plenty of time to reach their intended destinations, and to drive with courtesy. Two personal watercraft were left at the Bcll'a Silvercreek store parking area with "for sale signs attached to them. The owner reported them missing after returning to pick them up. Four or five benches were stolen rt from in front of the store. An employee noticed the theft in progress and yelled at them to stop, at which time the suspects and the vehicle left the scene. When stopped by an officer for speeding, a purse belonging to the passenger in the vehicle was searched and found to contain marijuana. They were given citations. A camper in the Lilly Lake area returned to the camp after leaving it unattended for approximately 15 minutes to find his motorcycle had been stolen. The bike was worth about $700 according to the owner. The owner of a snowmobile trailer reported it as missing from the upper area lot. Tollgale parking Investigation continuing. A cabin in the South Summit area, which is lived in during the summer months, was found to have been burglarized when a family member went to the home to prepare it for her parents arrival A "sniff of a vehicle in the Lambs Canyon area yielded three pounds of cocaine in the pickup. Summit County officers were asked to assist with a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed, (104 MPH) after leaving the scene of where he had been stopped in Evanston. He was stopped by officers in Utah and taken to the jail on Wal-Ma- charges of "felony evading. Several items were taken from a storage shed unit which had a pad lock on the door. Entrance was madi by removing the padlock whicl could not be focated After arriving to investigate a cal on a vehicle which had run off tin road the previous night, the office found the owner and a tow track a the scene. Completing the report, the drive was arrested for leaving the scene ol an accident. Driving too fast for road conditions, a driver in the South Summit area applied his brakes as he noticed another vehicle coming around a bend. His vehicle slid into the sec ond vehicle causing approximately $2,500 damage to both vehicles. As an officer was patrolling South Beach, a vehicle traveling toward him, fclmost hit him due to excess speed and non control of the vehicle. Dispatch informed the officer that the driver had a warrant on him from Salt Lake and no valid license since 1994. He was also cited on a DUI charge and transported to the jail. The vehicle was State Impounded. Tickets were also issued to several under-ag- e drinkers in the area. Stopping to investigate a vehicle traveling on Old Dump Road, officers found the driver was under the influence of alcohol. His passenger was found likewise. Drags were also located in the vehicle. Both males were taken to the jail. A driver was transported to jail after he passed a semi-trailrig in a construction site, weaving through the orange barrels.
