Summit County Safety Experts kick off summer safety Saturday, June 20th with the Safe Kids “Safety Expo” from 12:00 until 2 p.m. at the Village Shopping Center at Kimball Jct. (in front of vacant Linens’ and Things’ store). Safety experts from across Summit County will educate and demonstrate ways to keep families safe this summer. With the concern over the H1N1 influenza the previously scheduled event was cancelled. However, the beginning of summer is typically known as the “trauma season” by emergency personnel, said Geri Essen Coalition coordinator for the Summit Safe Kids Coalition. “Because this is when serious injuries of children increase dramatically, we didn’t want to miss this opportunity to share our message with the community” said Essen. National Safe Kids Re- leased their first-ever safety report which combines specific age appropriate safety tips with research on children’s cognitive, behavioral and physical abilities and limitations to support why certain safety precautions are critical. The report, Raising Safe Kids: One Stage at a Time was released at the beginning of Safe Kids Week April 27, and is available at HYPERLINK “http://www.summitcountyhealth.org” www.summitcountyhealth.org The five leading unintentional injury risks for children in the U.
