Show Senior & HEALTH News PAGE A6 JUNE 12, 2009 Summit County News North Summit Summit County Health Dept. Fees Increasing for Utah Vital Records Senior Citizens by Louise Wallace As you all must know, the month of June started out on a sad note for many of us as we attended the funerals of our friends, Jeannine Boyer on Monday, and Mae Moore on Tuesday. We pray their families will find comfort in the days ahead. We will miss them too. In spite of those sad times, things at the Center went pretty good. Carma Burns is in charge of the month and you should see the unique hand crafted little tin fisherman that grace the center and our tables. We owe their creation to Carma with some help from Rose Wallace. Add their crafty creations to those of Joe Jenkins, great welcoming posters, and we have a really pleasant meeting place. Our driver for the very first meeting of the month that brought the people from Henefer and Wanship was none other than Ben Jones who was accompanied by Merrill Dearden. We are always happy to see him and was so glad when Ben was joined later by his wife Jill. Jill has retired form teaching at North Summit Schools now so we hope she and Ben will soon find time to be regular members. We can use their talents and Ben’s good sense of humor, too. We postponed our shopping trip from the 4th to the 11th. Rose Wallace will be the lucky (or unlucky) driver this time. Our Fathers Day special lunch will be on the 17th, Happy Feet will be on the 19th, Kathy Wilde’s health check will be on the 24th, and Board Meeting on the 24th. We have set aside the 23rd for an activity day in case we find the time and an activity that most would enjoy. Kathy Wilde cooked for us on Friday because Rose Maxwell’s mother, Evelyn Flint was in the hospital. We hope she is improving, maybe even home by now. We know from all the reports that Brianna Schmidt’s injuries will take surgeries to heal. We continue to pray that she will have a complete recovery and as fast as possible. June is the month for many weddings and it was one of the reasons we postponed our shopping trip last week. It was so Gen Geary wouldn’t miss the shopping and could make part of the wedding festivities for her grandson Oliver Geary and his bride Monica Stephens, whose wedding was on the 5th. We wish them the best that life can bring. I came across this article by Marjorie Holmes. I think we can all relate to part of her sound advice and prayer… Dear God, surely it’s not the love of money that is the root of all evil, at least in marriage… Is it? Is it not knowing how to divide it wisely? How much am I free to spend without feeling guilty? How much is my husband spending without my resenting it? When I earn money is it mine to do with what I want? Or am I obligated to turn it over to him and then have to ask for some of it back? I am confused about this, and yes I am upset. And my husband is too. When we try to talk it over and come to a suitable conclusion, we either hurt each other by being frank, or we hold back and harbor the hurt of things unsaid. Dear Lord, please help us. Restore us to some perspective. Guide us back to the essentials. Help us to realize that companionship is more important than even physical comforts; that material security means nothing if there isn’t emotional security as well. Please help us resolve our misunderstandings. Please Lord, give us more money or more sense. Thank You, Amen. Last fee increase was in 2003 In order to implement Utah’s Fiscal Year Appropriations Act, House Bill 2, beginning July 1, 2009, the fee schedule will change for services provided by all state and local vital records offices in Utah. This act provides for the support and operation of state government for the fiscal year 2010. The new fee schedule increases the cost for some copies, abstracts and vital records searches. The schedule below lists the services affected by the fee increase, which goes into effect July 1, 2009: • Issuing a certified copy of a birth certificate $18 for the first copy, and $8 for each additional copy of the same record. • Issuing a certified copy of a death or fetal death certificate. • $16.00 for the first copy and $8.00 for each copy of the same record. • Issuing certified burial transit permit, $7.00 for each copy.
