Show LEAGUE MEETS TO START YEAR'S WORK A meeting of the East Mill Creek Betterment League was held Wednesday evening following the meeting of the Water Company Com-pany and committees for the coming year's work were appointed ap-pointed along with election of officers. of-ficers. Three major problems were discussed, dis-cussed, one the proposed discontinuance discon-tinuance of bus service, the additional addit-ional milage rate charged on telephones tele-phones and the proposed sidewalk on the section known as the "loop". The Airway's Motor Coach Company Com-pany has been operating a trial run that would accomodate people peo-ple living east of Twenty-Third east and so routing the busses that the dangerous crossing of Parley's Canyon at Twentieth East street was avoided. It was announced at the meet-ling meet-ling that this run had been ordered order-ed discontinued by the Utilities Commission and the League members mem-bers heartily oposed this order. Gordon B. Hinckley, in charge of the meeting, prepared two letters, let-ters, one to Mayor Ab Jenkins of Salt Lake City (regarding the dangerous pass over the tracks and through the canyon on city property) advising bim of the danger to passengers in the bus !and noting that such a routing is not in line with the city's plan of Traffic Safety. Another letter was written to the Utilities Commission and signed sign-ed by thirty or more residents of East Mill Creek and patrons of the bus line, asking that the former routing be considered too dangerous and unsatisfactory and the present trial routing be considered con-sidered the permanant route. Mr. Hinckley was asked to forward these letters immediatly. The officers were asked to appoint a committee to wait on the Telephone Company to have the lines in East Mill Creek all come under the Hyland Exchange instead of half of them in Hyland and the other half in Holladay. If nothing is dene by the Telephone Tele-phone Company it was asked of this committee that the matter be taken to the Public Service Committee Com-mittee of the state. |
