Show to lay his head," but was at the mercy of the people and the goodness good-ness of our Father who had always provided for our necessities. Sunilay Services. At iit. George Tabernacle. Sunday, Augnst 9, 1896. Bishop James Andrus presiding. Elder George F. Miles who was lately called on a mission, said he was desirous of doing all the good he can, as he joined this church for the love of the gospel, and my mind is set to do what I am called to do. 1 I am satisfied this is what we all should do. Elder Samuel H. Wells, who has just returned from a mission in Texas, said he considered it a misfortune mis-fortune for any young man not to be called on a mission, for it is one of the best schools that a young man can be placed in as it is a spiritual spirit-ual school in very deed. Said man today had fallen in many ways from what he was in the beginning, for we find that man lived almost one thousand years which was caused by his keeping the commandments of God, and were so pure that some of them walked and talked with God, and the gospel as restored to the earth in this our day is to bring mankind back to what he was in the beginning, and to teach mankind the pure principles of the gospel as they were taught in the beginning as also in the days of our Savior and his apostles. Said some young men who go on missions get discouraged dis-couraged when they do not make converts in a very short time; but this should not be; for if we do our j duty, we shall be accepted of the , Lord and we shall in no wise lose our reward. Spoke of the faith of the ancients, of Noah in the building build-ing the Ark according to the commandments com-mandments of God and of he and his family being saved thereby, and i also of many others and showed that we are commanded to contend for the faith once delivered to the saints. Said among the people of the world there are many who are . trying, in their way, to keep themselves pure. Among the religious relig-ious people of the world they do not profane the name of the Deity, but in many ways are seeking to be what they profess, nnd asked "do we, as a people, live up to what we .profess to be? do we lie up to the principles that are taught by those who are teaching us the ways of the Lord? Spoke of the promise of God made to this people if they would keep the Word of Wisdom, and of the beneifits to be derived therefrom by those who do so. Bore his testimony that those who will live up to the true principles of the gospel, will know for themselves, as 1 he knows, that the gospel is true. I Spoke of the love of men and wo- I men who have embraced the gospel and showed that this love is far greater than the love of kindred in the flesh. Said he had tried to do his duty while on his mission and had tried to sacrifice his own pleas- ure to the will of God, and had been, V as the savior said "without a place 1 |
