Show A North Carolina Woman With Strange, Mysterious Power. The Lnurinberg, North Carolina, Index in a recent issue contained the following article about Bello Oxendine, a relative of George Ox-endine Ox-endine of this city, says the Alber- querqu Citizen: About three miles from Pembroke, Pem-broke, in Robeson county lives Belle Oxend;ne with her husband Whiley. Until recently Belle has been 111 no wise noted except for a deeply pious and religious nature. Since Sunday night the 15th inst., through her deeds and sayings and J the mysterious xover with which she seems to be invested, she has created the wildest kind of excitement excite-ment among the Ciotan natives of the commuuity in which she lives. Great crowds of people are flocking flock-ing to see her from every direction, and for miles around the inhabitants inhabitan-ts are filled with wonder. She told her husband and family, that 'she had just visited both hull and heaven, heav-en, in spirit and that God had bidden bid-den her do some strange things to prove the truth of what she said, j To show her power the clenched I her fibts and the strongest men v.eie unable to open them, nor Could they bend her arms. Building a wood fire, she stood . over it with both bare feet in the blaze, the ( flames going all over and around I her, even without scorching her clothing or doing her the least harm. Then she pulled a stick of burning wood from the fire and lay down, placing her head in the flames and, greatly to the amazement amaze-ment of all around, her hair was not even singed. Afterwards she sat on the fire with the same remarkable re-markable result. |
