In the evening there will be a parade en masque. It will be ruled by Queen Folly and her consort Fun. There will be magnificent fireworks, and the mountain tops will vari-colored fire and the streets in every square gloriously lighted by huge bonfires. Every man, woman and child in Utah can not help but be interested in the grand Midsummer Carnival, to be held in Salt Lake City, July 2d, 3d and 4th; The most extensive preparations have been made for the greatest social and educational pleasure plea-sure out that ever transpired in the intermountain country. The original origin-al scheme was projected by H. I McGarvie, who largely helped to make the Chicago World's Fair and the San Francisco Midwinter Fair sosuccssful. He laid his carnival ideas before the Chamber of Commerce Com-merce of Salt Lake, a meeting of citizens was called, and the scheme again rehearsed, and in less than two weeks' time the entire departmental depart-mental committees were appointed and the funds subscribed, necessary to make the carnival an assured success. suc-cess. The programme for three days' festivities is a most elaborate one as-formulated by the entertainment entertain-ment committee, and will prove a . source of great joy, pleasure and profitable entertainment to the tens of thousands who will visit Salt Lake from all over Utah. The Queen of the Carnival will be elected by popular pop-ular vote, and in each county in the State a Queen will be likewise elected, elect-ed, and the county queen will act as maids of honor to the Queen of the Carnival. The programme is arranged ar-ranged that on the first day the Queen of the Carnival will take possession pos-session of tle city, be given the keys and rule supreme. This important ceremony will take place at the Joint Building; the Governor, Mayor of Salt Lake and civic and military organizations or-ganizations participating. 'jShc'- will be met at the depot by the thousands thous-ands of her loyal subjects, and with royal pomp and regal glory she will be escorted to the Joint Building, and will hold her Ourt in all the splendor of the Orient. On a throne outshining in splendor that of Cleopatra, erected in the grand entrance to the joint Building, surrounded sur-rounded by her County Queens as maids of honor, and by soldiery courtiers, officials and civilians, she will hold her Court and issue her commands which it will be a pleasure to obey. After these ceremonies, the Queen will be carried in a palanquin pa-lanquin of cloth of gold, decorated with the Sego lily, to a magnificent float, and take her seat on a throne of silver, surrounded by her adoring maid of honor, gnards, lackeys, etc. The float, which will be the most beautiful creation ever seen in the West, will be drawn by thirty white horses, each led by a knight in heroic he-roic costume, and a parade of the streets made. On the evening of the first day a grand patriotic concert will be given at the Tabernacle, by native sons and daughters. The second day will be Children's Day, and will constitute a floral festival. The school children will participate in a body, after electing their Floral Queen. All the floats will be of floral design, and on the great masses of flowers the childern will rest while riding in the parade. In the evening the grand ball in - honor of the Queen of the Carnival and her retinue will be held at the Salt Lake Theatre, The decorations decora-tions and arrangements for this event will be the most elaborate and expensive ever assumed in the intermountain country.
