Show The Seven Wonders. The question is often asked what were the seven wonders of the world? The seven wonders of the world were several remarkable objects of ancient times. First, the pyramids of Egypt, second, the Pharos, or watch tower at Alexandria, Alexan-dria, Egypt, built by order of Philadelphus, about 280 B. a, be-ing. be-ing. built of white marble, and visible at a distance of 100 miles; third, the walls and hanging hang-ing gardens of Babylon; fourth, the temple of Diana at Ephesus, supposed to have been two hundred hun-dred years in building; fifth, the statue at Olympia, in Ellis, sculptured sculp-tured in ivory and gold by Phidas, the most eminent of the ancients; sixth, the tomb built for Mausolus, king of Caria, by Artemesis, his Sueen; seventh, the colossus at Rhodes, a brazen statue of Apollo, seventy cubits high.
