Show Freedom Of The Press. The numerous renunciations of party nominations and political platforms plat-forms recently by newspapes is the best evidence that the American press is broader in its scope and freer in its advocacy of what it thinks is right than any other possible pos-sible demonstration. In the East anything but a maintenance main-tenance of the present basis of currency cur-rency is looked upon and considered determental to the general business situation and the future prosperity of the country. In the West and South the popular popu-lar sentiment is in favor of the coinage coin-age of silver on the basis "16 to i," as the great key to future success and posperity. 'Newspapers in accord with the best business sentiment of the communities com-munities in which they are published are forced by the present agitation to stand on one side of the line or the other, and acting on the best judgment of the editors, boldly shake off old political ties, if nessary, to uphold principles which they think are right. Such a free and independent press, as the American press has always shown itself to be, is the ssfe bulwark bul-wark of American institutions and a republican form of goverment that our revolutionary forefathers aimed to make it by guaranteering it unlimited un-limited freedom. In the light of great publicity, the majority of the people vote with full information on the great questions of the day which would be impossible impos-sible were it riot for the wide circulation circu-lation of newspapers. |
