The Wist and South are especially disapp liuted for in it they see no ray of hope for silver. His well-known hostility to bi-nietalllsm is evidenced in every sentence relating to llnances: be plainly intimate even if the new tJongress is disposed to favor its re-fiumiitlou re-fiumiitlou it would hive to ovi r-ridc Ms veto a most potent threat from a democratic, President to a Republican Republi-can Congress. In this remarkable age we are forcibly forci-bly reminded that even if the President Presi-dent were right in the premises a Congress which desired the down fall of its arch-political enemy It would smother any disposition to do rijjht.to cause this self-same defamation of an administration. Unfortunately for the people, the present age presents the spectacle of almost a Czar-like despotism emanating from the presidential presi-dential chair, mid w hat he says generally gen-erally goes. What credit or disfavor comes to the country from congressional congres-sional or even constitutional legislation legisla-tion the President is universally charged or credited with the same. The desire to curry favor with the adtninistrtiori and its satellites has has blunted the honor of most all of those who have the control of the country. Therefore, with their party thus so subservient to the powers that be, and the uncontrollable pre judice and partisanship that exists on their opponents' part, causes them to look upon an error of the administra tionV being Ihe thing they would v use as au Issue just to bring discredit on them; at the same time know ing they were wrong, but, of course, the head Is to blame for it all. President 'Cleveland having again signified his unalterable opposition to silver, now of course all his cuckoos will be opposed op-posed to It. Also his bitter enemies, even if they favor silver, are with the -administration to bring disgrace on them. Su wc look for nothing from this Congress and hope the people will look around for a presidential candidate who favors silver. Don't matter whether he shall be a Democrat Demo-crat or Republican, support him with all your might then a Congress can easily be found who will do something. some-thing. Now it doesn't matter how many silver men you get in; with a President opposed you can do nothing. A COUNTY FAIB. In another column will bo found a number of clippings from different Utah papers commending the lecent fair and In some instances advocating advocat-ing the holding of a county fair. The Idea of a county fair is a good one andoshnuk commend Itself to all progressive pro-gressive citizens of our fair county; In fact, these faiis, should be held annually, an-nually, for they are the best means of showing up t he resources and products pro-ducts of a community. They bring the farmers, manufact urers, and the skilled artisans of a community to-getber.where to-getber.where ideas may be exchanged and different mothods of doing certain cer-tain things discussed, resulting la mutual benefit to all who take an In. terest In the progress of their country and the development of Its resources. By all means let us have a county fair and let that Talr beheld in this flty. The magnificent success of the recent local fair Is a guarantee that our citizens are fully capable of making mak-ing even a greater succcm of a larger undertaking. In this city are all the iiecewary conveniences in the way of buildings, grounds, etc., that may be needed or evo desired, and the pen- llllliK UK') Hii.iers;iK miixosiui. J'novo his ju-st imsed tliruujfh a m ist distressing rxiioso of the moral depravity of stou of their younjf folks that was p naively appillin. T.u Eo'iuircr very pertinently calls at tentiun to the remission of parents in thudr duties v their children. Parents are too prone to permit their children too much liherity by far. The Idea of children of fourteen be-inK be-inK nut until 4 o'clock in the morn- intf, and every now and then we hear of some horrible case as this in our; cities tint until recent years were unheard of. An era of immorality seems to have set in and those who would save their children must look after them at night at home and ever h ive a watjliful eye over them. See who their associates are; gain their conllileiic.e: know their very thoughts this in ly b ; d m i if you are in their confidence. S -e what their recreative recrea-tive pleasures ('insist of; go with them, come off wnir age pedestal and ae:oinj)any them; eo:ne out of your obscurity and go with them to the dance, Join In with them; make home pleasant for them; have them bring their friends and associates to your house. Above all gain their confidence, confi-dence, then they will rarely go wrong. Springviile certainly deplores and sympathize with Provo in her trouble. Parents will undoubtedly heed this terrible warning1 and look afler their children. The Ilichlleld Advocate manages to blurt out from its dimly printed pages a tirade against us for our editorial edi-torial referring to the political skeleton skele-ton which we thought had been dragged out during the last campaign. If they had only sent a key to their meaning a great favor would have been rendered their readcrs, and they, not had the additional labor of unraveling unrav-eling its obscure vaporings as well as trying to decipher its splatter-blotted pages. We have pretty conclusive evidence of who "Grace Wilbur Trout" is the alleged author of "A Mormon Wife", to which we were foolish enough to devote an editorial. Every citizen of Springviile re-gardles re-gardles of party surely regrets that, on the face of the returns, Springviile- has no representation In the coming Legislature. The Independent greatly great-ly regrets this state of affairs; in fact, we hoped both would have been elected, elect-ed, and while regrettng that a contest con-test is necessary, we sincerely hope that Rrlnghurst will be successful in ti is efforts to prove that he was legally legal-ly elected to represent the people- in the tlrst State Legislature. Frank is certainly well qualified to represent this city and cjunty, and this city certainly deserves representation. The Silver Knight of Washington, D. C, Senator Stewart' paper.ls making mak-ing a vigorous effort to unito the various var-ious silver forces on one platform for the campaign of 'M and has formulated formulat-ed a "compromise" platform, uiKin which, it seems to us, all silver forces could well unite. A uiilon of the silver sil-ver forces Is most earnestly to be desired, de-sired, and we hope Senator Stewart will be successful in bringing It about. The P. iston Herald of November 10th pri lls an illustrated article on the plaster sketch by Cyrus i Dallin oi a staLue in duiiii iiuiiin-tv, Dallin is a Springviile man, the com ment of the paper is of local interest. The Herald says; The plaster sketch which Mr. Dal lin has made represents Hancock as standing. A scroll which may bu taken to be the Declaration, it one chooses -is in his left hand, pressed ty his heart. In his left hand be lie holus a pen, the arm hanging naturally at his side. The altitude is dignified, spirited and vet easy, and, as befits the aristo cratic breeding of the man, the ex pression of the whole figure is one of much elegance. 'I lie head is held proudly erect, but no training lor effect ef-fect is annarent. The pose is alto gether iust and natural. Mr. Damn s model tor me ieaiures was Coply's well know n part rait, now hanging in the art museum. The copy is not now very close at present, but' it is understood that Mr. Dallin wiil make some changes when he resumes work on the statue. The costume is also liable to a.terati n in a number of particulars, although the richness of the details shown in the ruffles and lace about the wrists and the like all very appropriate in Hancock's case will be preserved. The sketch is little over one-third the height of the proposed statue. The aft itude and general conception of the tlgure are all which cau be judged now, and on these it is under stood that the art commission nas passed favorably though informally. How soon the memorial will be completed aid placed in a proper site is uncertain, but probably it will lie up in the course of two or three years. At any rate, flu! tablet committee of the Sons of the Revolution intend to carry the project through as soon as possible. Did You Ever- Try Electric Hitters as a remedy for your troubles?
