Show Senior Cifizfis ftieefifi slaved .i anuarv ll, 1984 The Springville Herald - Page Seven r M K-j The after lunch topic for discussion for the Springville-Mapleton Springville-Mapleton senior citizens on Friday, Jan. 13 will be: "It happened by accident." Boyd Nelson will point out that almost everyone has some superstitions. Probably next to black cats, walking under ladders and breaking mirrors, Friday 13 is an omen of bad luck. Winter time with snow, cold and slippery sidewalks and roads is a time when senior citizens are especially susceptible to accidents or bad luck. Friday, after lunch senior citizens will be reminded of ways to prevent some bad luck or accidents. It is hoped seniors will become aware of a few new measures for avoiding problems. Senior citizens should remember that about 50 percent of people over 65 will eventually break a bone; most troubles could have been prevented, and over 50 percent of the time people themselves determine whether they live or die within a given period. Senior citizens should consider the results of careless actions, lack of exercise, poor attitudes and faulty health practices. It should be remembered that some major troubles come with age when reaction time has slowed, bones are more brittle, some senses are less acute, and there is often less toleration for problems. Older people might be well to keep in mind: "What is bad luck for me?" "What is dangerous?" "How can I change it?" Members are invited to contribute ideas, thoughts, experiences and problems relating to this topic. Elder Kyle M.
