Other officers assuming executive posts in the club are Erling Roylance, Ed Calloway, and Fred Kindred, vice presidents, Kay Johnson, tail twister, and Shirl Poulson, Lion Tamer. New directors of the club are Marvin Warren, Jeff Miner, Larry Semersheim, and Wilford Manwaring. An explosion of undetermined origin demolished a building and took the life of an employee at the American Cyanamid plant at the mouth of Spanish Fork Canyon. Missing after the blast and presumed dead was Andrew L. Allred, 54, of Fairview. A highlight of recent holiday celebration events in Springville was a record rally sponsored by the First-Twelfth LDS Ward. Seen in the hobo type attire specified while attending the rally were Russell Harmer, Connie Weight, Susan Ellis, and Jerry Westman. A new party line telephone system is currently being installed in-stalled in the Mapleton area. Work on the new lines and equipment is rapidly nearing completion according to phone company manager Ross B. Jenson. All telephones in the new area will be on one and two party lines. New officers were installed for the Mapleton Lions Club at a meeting held this week. They are, Glen Holley, president; first vice president, Maston Wentz; second vice president, Vern ' Marriott; third vice president, Reed Hales; tail twister, Porter Leavitt; and Lion Tamer, Sylvester Allan. Directors are Glen MacKenzie, Hugh Hjorth, Carlor Hjorth, and Jack Canto. Citizens of Springville have been asked to go to the polls and vote on a $450,000 bond issue. If the measure passes, the money from the sale of the bonds will be used in the construction of a new civic center on the City Park. Recently sustained as the new bishop of the Springville Ninth LDS Ward was T. Melvin Haymond. His first counselor will be Donworth Gubler, and the second counselor is J. Eli : Tippetts. Clerks are Stanley Sumsion, Orval Harmer, and Cleon Craig. As a fund raising effort in the campaign for financing special education projects, the Jaycee Wives of this city have announced an-nounced a drawing for several item of patio furniture. Chairman Chair-man of the project is Toni Smith, with Evalyn Fletcher as co-chairman co-chairman and Carla Jex as tacket chairman. 20 years ago The gold wings designating him as Naval Aviator were presented recently to Lieutenant Melvin Leon Wimber of this city. Lieutenant Wimber successfully completed the flight training courses as a member of the United State Marine Corps, With the wings he received his commission. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Fullmer of Springville Installation rites will be held this week for the new officers of the Springville 20-30 Club. They are, president, Reed Fletcher; ' first vice-president, Ray Cope, second vice president, Merlin Fox; and Malcolm Condie, secretary. Chairman of the board directors is Floyd Stewart, with LaMar Crandall, Dr. Creed Brimhall, Benny Olsen, and Edwin Johnson, as members. Follower of an unusual weekend hobby is Frank Morgan, a resident of this city. As his special recreation and pastime, Mr. Morgan arranges and directs rodeo performances. Operators of a new filling station now being constructed just north of the Pioneer Drive-in Drive-in Theatre on the Provo Road are a local man and his sons. Formerly operators of a station near Park Ro-She, they are Mr. Jack Curtis and his boys. F.C. Packard, president of the Springville Banking Company, has been named chairman of the Agricultural and Livestock Committee of the Utah Bankers Association, it was announced this week. News of the appointment ap-pointment was released by State Bankers Association president Charles H. Dixon, of Spanish Fork. Welcome home for Elder Leon Nebeker will be held this Sunday at 5:45 p.m. in the Springville Eighth LDS Ward. Elder Nebeker has returned after completing two years of service in the Central States LDS Mission. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harmer Nebeker of this city. r Ben Imoh, medical student at Westminister College in Salt Lake City, will be the speaker at this week's meeting of the Kiwanis Club, it was announced today. A native of Nigeria, Mr. Imoh is a former teacher and is currently working his way through clllege in this country. Receiving his Masters Degree in the field of science at recent commencement rites of the University of Minnesota was Celdon R. Lewis of Springville. Her grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Golden K. Hanson of Springville and Mr. and Mrs. L. Junior Pugmire, of St. Charles, Idaho.
