Show MANY DEBATES SCHEDULED AT UNIVERSITY Besides State Debates Three Leading Universities Sending Send-ing Teams Here. With, the inter-class contests already al-ready well under way, the debators at the Brigham Young university are determined to reverse last year's standing and come out on top of the Utah triangle instead of at the bottom, according to Orval Hafen, debating manager. Several of the state debates are already scheduled for the year, the University of West Virginia coming here February 11, the University of of Montana is sending a girls team hero and the University of Wyoming is also scheduled to send a team here. A two-man team from the B. Y. U. will invade California and Nevada debating with the University Univer-sity of Redlands, the University of i Southern . California, Occidental college and probably the university I of Nevada and the College of the Pacific at San Jose. The organization of girls' teams in addition to the regular college teams is new in the inter-mountain schools this winter, but all the schools are organizing such, teams. The Utah triangle will meet Jan-uary Jan-uary 22, the negative teams doing the traveling. The girls' teams are limited to two debators while the boys' teams have three. The boys will meet January 23. Boys' teams will discuss the subject, sub-ject, "Resolved, that congress should ' have the power to over-ride the de- cisions of the supreme court." The j girls will debate the question, "Resolved, "Re-solved, that the immigration1 law of 1924 should be so amended as to admit ad-mit the Japanese into the United States on the same basis as Euro-peons." Euro-peons." Class debates will be held November Novem-ber 10 and 11 on the immigration question and the winners will be presented with individual gold medals. Each class has two teams. A large number of experienced debaters de-baters are trying out for the teams this year, Hafen reports and it is expected that the class meets will bring out some good material. Drew Cooper, Sherman Christensen, Walter Clark, Juanita Pulsipher, Unyden Dangerfield and Heber Ras-band Ras-band are back in school from last j year's teams. An organization called the "B Ysor" club has boon fostered nt the university to promote interest in debating; de-bating; A. C. Lambert is president of the club. |
