Show Funeral Services Set On Friday For Victim Of Train-Truck Accident Funeral services for Wm. E. Ruff, 67, Springville garageman, who lost his life in a train-car accident here Tuesdav mornine:. will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m., in the Second-Eighth ward chapel, under the direction of Bishop Bis-hop Oliver Dalton of the Second ward. Friends may call at the Claudin Funeral home Thursday from 7 p.m., to 9 p.m., and at the family residence, 210 East 8th South, before be-fore the services. Burial will be in the cemetery at Spring Glen, Carbon Car-bon county. Chief Henry M. Weight of the local police said the truck in which Mr. Ruff was riding, was going west across the track crossing when it apparently stalled. Mr. Ruff alighted from the vehicle to the south just about the time of the impact. The south-bound Zephyr knocked the cab of the vehicle 270 feet, severing it from the bed, which was left near the crossing. The victim was thrown about 80 feet when the truck struck him after being hit by the train. An eye-witness, Glenn W. Coff-man, Coff-man, Jr., 18, standing about 200 feet from- the crossing on his father's fa-ther's farm, said the truck apparently ap-parently stalled and that the driver got out just as the 12-car diesel train hit the vehicle." Mr Ruff was alone at the time of the accident. He was enroute to the Glenn W. Coffman ranch west of the crossing to do welding when the accident occurred. Engineer for the Zephyr was C H Sorenson, Salt Lake City, with E. F. Marshall as conductor. The accident was under the investigation investi-gation of C. E. McEnany, D&RGW trainmaster, Provo. He was educated in the Coalville schools and moved to Spring Canyon. He has lived in Springville for the past 16 years, where he is operator, with his son, of the W. JE. Ruff and Son Garage. He is survived by his wife, Alice Ruff; three daughters and one son, Alice Crawford, Columbia, Utah; Wm. Ruff, Margaret Hales and Elva Tipton, all of Springville. |
