Show ANDREW PIERCE OBSERVES 79th BIRTHDAY In special observance of his 79 th birthday, Andrew Pierce of this city was guest of honor at a family fam-ily dinner Monday night. A son of James Madison and Mary Ann Bowman Pierce, he was born September 9, 1861, in Springville. Mr. Pierce recalls that in those early days manj families lived in dugouts until their homes could b6 built, and in such a dugout he was born. He has lived all of his life in Springville, making his living by following the carpentry trade. He proudly made the statement that he had helped build 13 meeting houses, 13 schools, 5 power plants, a steel plant, a roundhouse, a bank building, art building, and enough homes to make a city as big as Springville. On March 20, 1891, he married Sylvia Winn of Smithfield in the Manti temple. He is the father of six children, five of whom are living. They are Stanley Pierce of Spanish Fork, Mrs. LaVaun Hales and Clifford Pierce of Springville, Mrs. Jessie Perkins of Smithfield, and Cleo Pierce of Ogden; also 19 grandchildren. grand-children. He has always been active in the church, serving as a ward teacher for 15 years and is at the present time a high priest. In splendid health, he is very actively engaged in various pursuits of an avocational nature and he takes care of both flower and vegetable gardens at his home. |
