Show Art winners listed; festival opens here Sunday First place award in the Springville-Mapleton artists fall festival now on exhibit at the Springville Museum of Art was ,won by Wendell Johnson of Mapleton. Others winning places in the show include R. W. Davidson, Mapleton, second place with Judy Law placing third. Honorable Honor-able mention awards were won by Oneita Sumsion and Omar Hansen. First annual exhibit of the fine arts to be held in connection connec-tion with the October Festival of Arts sponsored by the Central Cen-tral Utah Arts Council will open October 26 at the Springville Spring-ville Museum of Art. The exhibit ex-hibit will open at 2 p.m. and will include not only the visual arts, but a display of accomplishments accom-plishments by groups and individuals indi-viduals in both the creative and performing areas of music, drama, dance and literature. Participation is by invitation only. The exhibits wll run through November. A recepton will honor those entering the afternoon of the 26th according to Bruce Braithwaite, exhibit chairman. In connection with the Oc- tober Festival of Arts, an awards banquet will be held here November 1. Bruce Braithwaite, who has been director of the Springville , Art Museum for the past two years, has accepted a new assignment as-signment with the Foreign Studj League of Salt Lake City as director of advertising and public relations. He will assume his duties at the end of the month. In his new position, Mr. Brnithwaite will handle all publications, conventions and ether public relations assignments. assign-ments. He will spend two months of the year in Eurcne supervising directors of tours tc that area. As museum director, Mr. Braithwaite has supervised and added to the art shows during the past two years and has set up a number of one-man exhibits ex-hibits aside from the annual April show. JUDGED BEST Mrs. Clay Beesley, art hostess at the Springville Museum of Art, displays the winning painting in the current Springville and Mapleton artists' show at the museum. The exhibit will run through November. The painting was done by Wendell Wen-dell Johnson of Mapleton. R. W. Davidson also of Mapleton placed second with Judy Law rating a third with her entry. The public is invited to view the local paintings. |
