The matter was discussed by the members of the council and referred re-ferred to the cemetery committee for investigation, t'ouncilinan llarm-er llarm-er stated that there are still Jll lots left in the Evergreen cenieterv and at the rate they have been s'ellimx during the last year they will last for two more years. Councilman Mendenhnll reported that the Sutton property on (he west side of Main street, that was ill the recent fire had been cleaned np and the place now looks finite respectable and that n new building was being constructed on the ad-' joining property, which was also in the fire, owned by the City Urug company. .- The irrigation -committee reported report-ed that there is only enough water left coming from Strawberry to last nnother week, . and . if it (iocs not rain before that time there will . have to be water leased from the government to finish out the irrigation irriga-tion season. Councilman Smith reported that there is only enough water coming out of Hobble creek to keep the power- plant going part time nnd that power is being purchased from the government plant in Spanish Fork canyon. About a third of the electricity is being produced for the city's consumption. Councilman Smart reported the progress on the bridge over Hobble creek on Fourth East, and asked that the committee on streets be empowered to construct two wooden bridges over Hobble creek in the west part of town. The request was granted. The streets committee commit-tee was also empowered to gravel and fix the cement bridge on Fourth West . street, near the railroad tracks. . The council unanimously voted to buy a siren for the Springville fire department ,in order that adequate and efficient alarm service might be had. A vote of appreciation and recognition recog-nition was given the Springville firemen for bringing home from the state tournament recently held at American Fork, two silver, cups for the best exhibition in fire fighting contests. Mayor Maycock suggested that the boys of the fire department be encouraged by the council to start a fund now and begin laying plans to hold the Utah state firemen's tournament in Springville in the 3'ear 1920, as definite plans have already been made to hold it in Salt Lake City in 1025. The suggestion met with the hearty approval of the ( council. 1 A shortage in one of the water ' lines in the First ward was reported report-ed to the waterworks committee, according to Councilman Reynolds. ' It was thought that this was due I to the line being small and that parties on the line persisting in letting let-ting their taps run. The waterworks water-works department 1 was instructed to check up ou the matter. : |
