Show SMOOT CASE NEARING END Committee Finally Submits Its Report to the Senate for Approval 1 Majority Members of Committee DeClare De-clare That Utah Senator is Not Entitled to Wear the Toga Minority Report Submitted Washington Senator Burrows on Monday reported In the senate the resolution adopted by a majority vote of tho privileges and elections committee com-mittee declaring that Heed Smoot Is not entitled to a seat In tho senate A report on tho resolution was also presented and Burrows asked that 10 000 copies be printed as a senate document doc-ument and that the same number of the minority report to bo offered should also he printed which was agreed to Senator Forakor presented tho I minority report in tho Smoot case and moved that both reports ho printed in tho record In addition to being issued is-sued as senate documents Senator Burrows said he hoped tho case of Senator Smoot could bo called up at an early date and voted upon Senator Sen-ator 1 < oral < cr Indorsed this proposition rnd said the minority members of the committee would like to see early action ac-tion taken Senator Bailey of tho privileges and election committee said that whllo ho concurred in the conclusion of the majority ma-jority of the committee that Smoot Is not entitled to a scat In tho senate it was his opinion that ho could not be deprived of his seat except by resolution resolu-tion by expulsion Whllo both anti and proSmoot senators expressed on tho floor a desire for an early vote it is believed that final action in tho case will not be reached this session Senator Allison In discussing this phase of the case said If there should uo a disposition on the part of many fenators to speak on the Smoot case It would not be taken up this session It was stated by Senator Smoot that he would speak on his own behalf In the senate If a general discussion takes place |
