home and the perpetuity of parenthood parent-hood rests tho foundation of our government govern-ment and the happiness of mankind Sister you do your part Brother you do your part have more than a passing significance to them These micnd injunctions lead them to believe that the glad hand of fellowship be extended to all and that while petty dilTcrences mav crcen into their political and relig i 1 life yet no thing whatsoever great or small should wedge into their family I cirelo to mar its peace or cut short its days The occasion of this reunion was the sixty nineth birthday of W 0 Creer who WAS born Feb 1811 Mr Creer has played a very important part in the making of Spanish Fork Many important import-ant positions of trust and honor has lit held in our city He has been diligent and faithful all that the people have asked him to do and has not only won the respect of the Creer family but of all tho citizens of our town The reunion brought together many of the early settlers of this city who talked of the time of the dugout the logcabin and the thatched cottage Friends nnd relatives all joined in tnt mirth of tho day making the day one loug to be remembered Tho program was both interesting and pleasing The dinner was most inviting The dance was an inspiration to all youni and old Following I are the two poems One written by the poet Laureate for this I year and one written by the family Jester for the last year ORIGIN OF CREERS So noted have the Creels become Wed like to know where they begun What of their origin wed like to see I In England Ireland or Atnericee These countnesarc all noted for fame But nemo can brag of such a name Across the deep the Creels began On what is known as the Isle of Man low they were named can never be found Till Uncle Orsen crossed the pond And learnd from an aunt way over the sea That when things were lost there use to be A man of note and great renown Who would ever wander around the town Shouting and crying for the missing thing Until the city with his song shall ring His voice was crisp and lewd and clear So by suggestion they called hm Creer Since then our family has had no Squires But furnished all the noted Criers Infact so apt was this little band That they were called to many a land In England did they first apneir I think he was called Matliias Creer His old profession he tried to forego By catching a fish and mending shoe They say for a while he did succeded In bridling his tongue as a coachman a steed For a year or so he was lost tofnme But never was robbed of his suggestive suggest-ive name The people knew what he ought to be And called him out of obscurity So like a young and spirited nag His tongue again began to wag Great zeal did he now manifest Till man noi child could find no rest He cried on the corner street or square He cried when brojght before the mayor 1 The King at fast did intercede That ho might that mans tongue impede im-pede But with all his power pomp and ire He could not stop this noted Crier I Ho offered him titles estates and fame If he could only change his name The map replied this can not bet Its the birthright of our family Before the Lords bill was brought It read like this in language wrought We find to day on Englands shore A bunch of men three score or morf Who will not yeald who will not bend To any thing we may recommend In voice and will they stand supreme Shoulders above our King and Queeu Banish tho leader llIld Lord McGuire Thus from his home came Edward Creer His sons and daughters they to must follow Or never cry or shout or hollow Such a thing could never occur With Orson Am and Elean6re Their tongues were loosp and very slick Try ever so hard they would not stick They would wiggle around both night and day Bringing trouble and anguish and much dismay At last they hailed a week or more And finally landed on New Eelgland shore Free speech they read in a paper bold And began to talk as they did of old No introduction did they ever need When talking at such terrific speed For in their chatting they appeared so queer That every boely knew their name was Creer Their fame spread quick from town to town As men of plnck and great renown Se off to the West they were hurried asvav Where they nave remained to this day In Spanish Fork it is thought by some That with their ad vent the wind begun This may be true this may be jest But neither have yet found time to rest So in their nature they both agree To blow as long as eternity Therefore kind neighbor bear with them I As inoffensive windy men They ineui no harm thoy wish you well I They wish you all that tongue can tel J P fIn f-In the heart of nerry Knglanel In that kingdom by the sea Lived a maiden pure and happy Strong and lovclyblithe and free Deep her thots were of the future Long and quiet was her walk Happy was the boy who met her And then listened to her talk To the parish church at Charley Oft accompanied by the Squire She attended sacred worship Was a singer in the choir She was known by all the workers In the mills now dark and old Of her smile and disposition Stories they have often told What Is meant by this Salvation Was a thot that to her came What is meant by all this preaching Of the Masters sacred name In due time she hoard a message That most thrilled her with la zeal 1 To accept and be lHiO r I Satisfaction she could feel Her desire was to jjather With the Saints out in the west of freedom Where there was a breath Vas a region of the blest oj 1 So she journeyed to that weetland ri that region oer the seaTo sea-To that land of peace and plenty Where contented she could be I Providence was kind and gracious To this maiden of our choice It took charge of all her wanders For she listened to Its voice Of a man she was accepted He was sturdy bold and true He accompanied her in pleasure And he shared her sorrow too In this region of the Rockies Full of wants and cares and fears They made up their minds to settle They bccnmu true pioneers Boys anel girls were to them added Work and effort made them strong Sheer necessity assisted Te inure their lives prolong Spanish Fork has been their city They have striven and builded well They who count the citys story I Of their names are botmef to tell Time have served in state and council In the l legislature too Thoy are loyal to their nation To their families they are true We assemble on this birthday To do honor to the name Of tho old folks who have struggled And have merited their fame So we all join in this tribute Their stern virtues to extol They have lived and died and conqured Theyre redeemed from the fall I Long live all the Creel family Venerate that noble name Strive to keep the family plesti eWe e-We shall try to do the same Since we last came in reunion One has left the little band Leaving five to sojourn with us In this rugged western land Five yet here to make us happy Throw a flower in their way Make them fee that we are earnest I Put
