The students enjoyed a fun science lesson on chemical and physical changes. After a demonstration from Dr. Cutler, the students were then able to conduct their own chemical reactions. It was a fun way to learn. Corbin White presented his self-esteem motivational assembly to the students of Park Elementary School. Mr. Corbin White presented an unforgettable assembly helping students know that they can find a "natural high" and they can avoid drugs, alcohol and violence. This assembly required lots of student participation from sharing their ideas of what could give a "natural high" to singing karaoke to their peers. A fun time was had by all, including the Park teachers who got to perform for their students. Thank you goes to Corbin White for helping them remember all the good things we can do to be happy. > r - " . :•• SPORTING CHANCE: On Jan. 21, 2010, approximately 1,000 sixth-grade students from across Utah Valley descended onto the BYU campus for an exciting day to be spent with their local sports heroes. Brockbank Elementary had 57 students in attendance. BYU calls this activity "Sports Hero Day." Its purpose is to provide sixth-grade students the opportunity to interact with BYU athletes, and to observe their positive examples in academics, athletics and social circumstances up close and personal. The sixth-grade students were given the chance to try many different sports with the college athletes. Some of the student's favorites were football, volleyball, soccer and golf. Pictured are Viktor Mendoza and Marissa Bradford trying to golf while the college athletes watch. ARIA: Operas by children came to life on the stage of Park Elementary School on Jan. 21, 2010. The 4th grade students presented three mini-operas. Each opera was written by the students, the props and set designs, and the costuming were done by the students with some teacher and parent help. The operas this year were based on events in Utah History. Mrs. Sherri Smithee's class presented "The Midnight Mystery". Mrs. Leslie Perschon's class presented "The Watches of Time". Mr. Josh Hales' class presented "The Pony Express". The students performed for the student body Thursday afternoon and for their parents the evening of January 21, 2010. The 4th grade students did a fabulous job. This program is sponsored by Opera by Children, which is an Educational Outreach Program of the Utah Festival Opera Company in Logan. The fourth grade students and teachers would like to thank Longview Fibre for donating the cardboard that was used for the backdrops and scenery for the opera.
