Show SPANISH FORK Covering what matters most A10 • WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 2009 Stewart named MWC Player of the Week at BYU ALA Basketball Spanish Fork's Natalie and Nachelle Stewart are continuing their standout track performances as freshmen at BYU. The twins teamed up with Katie Palmer and Angela Warner at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational in New York City Feb. 6-7,2009 to set a new BYU record in the 4x400m relay at 11:04.91. The mark is the secondfastest in the nation and is also an automatic NCAAqualifying time. Natalie Stewart set another BYU record in New York in the 400m at 54.13, which puts her first in the Mountain West Conference and 12th overall in Natalie Stewart the nation. For her performances over the weekend, she was named MWC Player of the Week. Sophomores beat Timpanogos, 39-21 Maritza Allen / Spanish Fork News EAGLES: The North Summit Braves visited American Leadership Academy Wednesday, Feb. 11. The Braves were on fire from the start, scoring 20 in the first and 22 in the second to lead 42-19 at the half. The Eagles struggled to get into their game, but were able to outscore North Summit 16-6 in the fourth quarter. By then the Braves had established a comfortable lead, and they walked away with a 66-44 win. Pictured taking the shot is ALA's Zach Worrell. The sophomore girls played an awesome game, winning with a score of 39-21. During the first half, both teams fought for the lead. The first quarter ended with a tied score 6-6, but Spanish Fork pulled ahead at the half, scoring nine points to Timpanogos' six, to bring the score to 15-12. In the third quarter Spanish Fork dominated outscoring the T-wolves 15-7 and outscoring them in the fourth quarter 9-2. The sophomores played the last game of the evening, adding a third win after both Varsity and JV teams won their games. "I am so proud of the way these girls played," said Coach Alyssa Larsen. "They defended their home floor going 4—1 in region at home. You can't ask for much better than that!" Jen Huntsman and Kaitlin Urmston led the scoring with 15 and 12 respectively. The Lady Skyhawks struggled to get the ball in the hoop against the Spartans, who jumped to an early 16-3 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Skyhawks got things going in the second half, with 14 third-quarter points, but went cold in the fourth as Emery pulled away for the 65-31 lead. Pictured, above, is Rachel Simons.
