Wolsey STAFF WRITER Shoppers at Maceys last weekend had the opportunity to do more than just pick up their groceries when they ventured into the store. Maceys has teamed up with the Utah National Guard Charitable Trust to help the families of deployed men and women. The UTNG estimates that nearly 60 percent of deployed service members experience a decrease in income, which becomes a tremendous hardship for families. As a fundraiser for the trust, each Macey's store in Utah is holding a two-day sales event selling twenty pounds of chicken for $29.80. Fifty percent of the proceeds will go to UTNG. "The sale was supposed to be just this weekend, but we've been able to get enough OPEN FOR BUSINESS: On Wednesday, Feb. 13, the Chamber of Commerce held ribbon cutting ceremonies for Eagle Express Courier Service. Eagle Express offers deliveries around the county and even up to Salt Lake. They also offer same day MTC deliveries. For more information, call 592-7686. Manager Matt Thompson had no doubts that Maceys would surpass the corporate goal of 1,000 cases sold per store. "By Tuesday, we'd already sold 200 cases," he said. Thompson spent the majority of his Saturday shift restocking the freezer as people piled cases of chicken into their carts. It was common to see a cart with two or more boxes of chicken in it. "We've already sold eight pallets of chicken today, and we haven't even hit our busy time yet," said Thompson. All of the employees at Maceys were proud to help with the fundraiser. Summers spoke for everyone when he said, "We're really glad that we're able to help the families of the troops." A delicious meal was enjoyed by members and their sweethearts. Special guest was Marilyn Paice who entertained the group with eight of her favorite "Love" songs. These included "On the Street Where You Live," "It's Impossible," "Hot Diggitty Dog," "True Love," "Come to Me, Bend to Me," "Someone to Watch Over Me," "Never on a Sunday," and "Unforgettable."Dale Peery conducted the meeting and introduced the entertainment.
