Despite some brilliant moments — including an 80-yard kickoff returp for a touchdown by JJ Warren — the Eagles fell to their 3A opponents, 45-7. The game was dedicated to Coach Eti Samani and his wife Trichelle, who died recently in a head-on collision. Cavemen shut out Lady Dons Scott Elliott STAR WRITER On Thursday, Sept. 6 the Spanish Fork Lady Dons varsity soccer team visited the Cavemen of American Fork. This region is very strong in soccer this year, with Lone Peak, Timpanogos and American Fork. The Cavemen took it to the Dons, blanking them out 6-0 at American Fork. Spanish Fork's biggest loss of the season. The Dons stayed with the Cavemen toc-to-toe for the majority of the first half, but once AF scored a goal, the Dons seemed to waiver. Their confidence went down a notch with each goal scored by the Cavemen. At half time the Dons were down by only two goals with American Fork taking seven shots the first half, and the Dons taking four shots. American Fork's goalie was very impressive as she methodically put a stop to every shot taken by the Dons. The second half got uglier for the Dons when Cavemen took 16 shots and were successful on four of them, while the Dons only got off two shots the entire half. Spanish Fork played hard, but they were simply beat by a good, strong team in American Fork. The Dons are a good team when they play as a unit, and they need to start believing in themselves and their abilities. When they work together they neutralize the efforts of the opposing teams, and they become more aggressive and hungry for scoring goals and in putting a stop to the opposing team's goals. This is the team that has won games in -the past this season. Hopefully they will find themselves and get back to their winning ways. Due to rain and a no-show by the referees, the Lady Dons varsity game against Lone Peak was cancelled on Tuesday. Sept. 4, 2007. Being that it is a region game, it will be made-up at a later date. The Dons took on new region foe, Lehi, at home Tuesday, Sept. 11. They will visit Pleasant Grove on Thursday, Sept. 13, and have a rematch with the Timberwolves the following Namon Bills / Spanish Fork News* EFFORT: Brooke Steinkopf battles an opponent for the ball.
